Autumn & winter remedies incoming! All handmade by me, here in Richmond. I have these available at the Richmond Farmers Market & 0nline

Golden milk is one of the first herbal remedies I used consistently, and to this day, it’s one that I feel the most difference in my body with- less soreness, aches, & pains + better sleep! This is Ayurvedic golden milk in a jar- melt it into milk or tea.

Golden Nectar:
- supports the body’s inflammatory pathways, reducing inflammation & pain over time
- turmeric & saffron reduce inflammatory markers associated with anxiety & depression
- honey coats & soothes mucus membranes
- ginger, cinnamon, & orange peel soothe stomach upset & reduce bloating
- a warming tonic to support immunity & circulation

Herbal Chaga Chai is a warming, chai tea blend that warms digestion, supports the immune system, & tastes like warmth in winter.
- Chaga is an incredibly potent mushroom that supports the immune & nervous systems
- Ginger root, cloves, & cardamom support the body with inflammation & digestion while adding lovely flavor to this blend

Saffron is an incredibly potent herb known for its ability to support-

inflammation, focus, anxiety, depression, PMS, and libido

My herbal teacher, Thomas Easley, author of The Modern Herbal Dispensatory, writes in his book, “Saffron is one of the strongest anti-inflammatories in the herbal materia medica. It works particularly well at reducing inflammatory cytokines associated with depression.”

Basically, there are certain inflammatory markers associated with anxiety & depression & saffron helps reduce these. While it supports us with depression & anxiety in that way, saffron also affects neurotransmitters, which of course are the foundation of our mental health.

♥️ One study found that just 50 mg of saffron produced a significant improvement in participants’ anxiety and depression symptoms.

♥️ In another study focused on mild to moderate depression, 96% of women taking saffron went into remission — compared to just 43% on placebo. AMAZING

Saffron also supports libido-

♥️ Women taking saffron have reported increased arousal, better lubrication, and less pain during in*******se. Similar results have been found in men, including improved function and enhanced semen quality.

And for those going through perimenopause or menopause, saffron may offer relief from hot flashes, anxiety, and depression during these transitions.

Finally, saffron’s impact on neurotransmitters and its neuroprotective properties offer support for focus, memory, & attention so many folks with ADHD lean on this herb.

Not surprisingly, there is so much more to this plant! It can be used for period pain and imbalance, it's an exhilarant used to lift the spirit and soothe the heart, a wound healer, and supportive for insomnia, digestion, and more.

Some herbal creations I made this week:
- lemon balm glycerite (uplifting, focus, digestive tonic)
- Solomon's seal tincture (pain & inflammation)
- saffron tincture via percolation (focus, inflammation, PMS, pain, depression, anxiety)
- fire c***r (immunity, digestion, congestion)
- tulsi tincture (finally!) (uplifting for depression, anxiety, focus, digestion)
- goldenrod tincture (allergies & mucus membrane support)
- dehydrated lots of tulsi for tea

Just a reminder that all of our products are made completely by hand, by me! With help by friends Sara & Madison sometimes. Plants harvested, chopped up, processed, put into bottles, all of it. Even label design!

This is Butters in the back, he showed up randomly a couple of months ago & he's a sweetie!

Finally made another batch of Solomon’s seal tincture!

Solomon’s seal is my go-to herb for pain & inflammation. Turmeric- debatably the most well-known herb for inflammation- is very hot & drying, while Solomon’s seal is moistening & nourishing, making it a better fit for many people. Creaky &/or hot, swollen joints are examples of dry, hot tissues- using a dry, hot remedy (like turmeric or ginger) can potentially make things worse. You want to balance it out instead with moistening remedies (like Solomon’s seal). Make sense?

Solomon’s seal can support people with sore muscles, arthritis, disc injuries, sprains, strains, hypermobility, creaky, achy, joint & tendon pain, & overall inflammation.

The Modern Herbal Dispensatory by Thomas Easley & Steven Horne, calls Solomon’s seal, “the most reliable remedy for osteoarthritis & rheumatoid arthritis in the herbal materia medica”.

Solomon’s seal is actually a native plant in the eastern US! It’s gorgeous & you can find it on the forest floor here. That being said, make sure you understand ethical harvesting guidelines & the reproductive cycle of the specific plant you’re looking for before you go picking anything. I haven’t found large enough populations here in Indiana to feel good about harvesting so I get mine from Forest & Meadow Herb Shop.

Highlighting some items I'll have at the Richmond Farmers Market tomorrow. 9am-noon Jack Elstro Plaza (: All handmade by me- been vending for 4 years now & formally studying herbalism for 8 (studying the human body & plants before that)!

Just a quick summary of what these herbal remedies do:

🌱 Healing Tea: for gut healing (think chronic digestive issues or chronic inflammation) & anxiety

🌱 Focus Tea: for focus of course! With (slightly) stimulating but not jittery-inducing eleuthero this tea works well for the after-lunch sleepies at work.

🌱 Mineral Magic tea: multivitamin in tea form! With nettle, oatstraw, red raspberry leaf, ginger, rose hips, & more- this tea helps fill in the gaps. Originally this tea was made for a friend during her pregnancy & postpartum

🌱 Bittersweet Balance: a vinegar extract to support blood sugar stability & digestive issues

🌱 Mineral Magic Elixir: a vinegar & honey elixir to support natural detoxification pathways + give you more vitamins & minerals

🌱 Mimosa: an uplifting tincture for when you're feeling down and/or anxious. Made from the most beautiful flowers there's ever been (google Albizia julibrissin flowers)

🌱 Blue vervain: for the type-a human who simply can't relax. This helps release tension in the body & help you transition from work-mode to home-mode

🌱 Breathe Easy- for trouble breathing during exercise, asthma, tight chest of any sort, & panic attacks! (one of my favorite blends)
