NATIONAL ALS AWARENESS MONTH

What is ALS?
Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neurological disease that affects nerve cells responsible for controlling voluntary muscle movement.

Over time, ALS leads to:
Loss of muscle strength
Difficulty speaking and swallowing
Respiratory decline

When to Consider Hospice for ALS
Hospice care may be appropriate when patients experience:
✔ Increased weakness or immobility
✔ Frequent infections (especially respiratory)
✔ Significant weight loss or difficulty swallowing
✔ Increased shortness of breath
✔ Decline in ability to perform daily activities
