The science of how a few quiet minutes change your morning.
Swipe for three things that happen in your brain when you journal, brain dump, and meditate.

The Lore - long before paper, the Babylonians kept a god of the written word. Nabu, son of Marduk, was the divine scribe, the keeper of wisdom and the patron of every scribe who ever pressed a reed into wet clay. It was said he recorded the fate of each new year on the sacred Tablet of Destinies, as if writing a thing down was what made it real. His emblem was the simple stylus.

Which one surprised you? Tell us below.

All of this science comes straight from this week's Deep Dive, Episode 18, on my morning routine of journaling, the brain dump, and meditation. Out now, subscribe wherever you listen, and join our newsletter for the deeper cuts. Link in bio.

What if the secret to your best self isn't more willpower?

The September pick for The Archives is here, and it's one I've been so eager to get into with you all. 🤍

This month we're reading Situated by Angela Duckworth, the psychologist behind the bestseller Grit. Her surprising turn: grit matters, but it isn't always enough. What shapes us most is our situation, the people, places, and even the small things within arm's reach. She digs into how the company you keep and the rooms you spend your time in quietly pull you toward, or away from, the person you want to be, and how to design a life that brings out your best on purpose.

Come ready to talk about the situations that shape us, and the ones we can change.

We meet on Zoom. Tuesday, October 6, 8 PM EST. Open to all, 18+.

Join us at the link in bio, or find us at houseofundine.com/events.

Cannot wait to get into this one with you all.

see you soon,

What if the studies everyone trusted didn’t hold up?

The August book pick is here, and it’s one I’ve been so curious to get into with you all. 🤍

This month The Archives is reading How to Rule the World by Theo Baker, the student journalist who became the youngest person ever to win the George Polk Award, for the reporting that forced out Stanford’s president.

As a teenage freshman, Baker started asking questions about the celebrated neuroscience research coming out of the president’s own labs. His reporting helped bring to light manipulated data and serious flaws across those papers, problems that were never fully corrected, and it led to retractions and, eventually, a resignation. What stays with me is the reminder that it is always healthy to ask questions and stay a little skeptical, even about the science we trust, even the science I share. That scrutiny isn’t the enemy of good science. It’s how it stays honest.

Come ready to talk about who we trust, why we trust them, and where a little healthy skepticism serves us.

We meet on Zoom. Tuesday, September 1, 8 PM EST. Open to all, 18+.

Some of the things that bring us the most joy are the ones we are quietly taught to be embarrassed by. A reminder this week that you owe no one an apology for what you love. ✨

This week in The Lighthouse, my Substack: coming soon, a bit delayed this week 😉

Moonbeams: 🌙 The full moon rises July 29 in Aquarius, the sign of being unapologetically yourself. Honor how far you have grown and release what keeps you small. This moon carries an old name. Can you guess it? A rare portal is opening now too. Sign up for the newsletter to hear more about both, plus a full moon ritual.

What’s your North Star this week? Tell us yours below.

Come set your intention with me, Monday at 8pm EST for our virtual sound bath. Link in bio.

“There is a tendency for people to roll their eyes at things that bring joy. And bring women joy, especially. And it pi**es me the f— off. Anytime a woman writes something and there’s even a little hint of sex… it suddenly devalues the work. And it doesn’t matter what else is in that book.” — Sarah J. Maas
