I Turned My Garage In To A State-Of-The-Art Personal Training Studio...AGAIN!

Three years ago, I wrote an article documenting the transformation of my training studio from a simple garage setup into a fully functioning gym. To my surprise, that article has remained one of the five most-read pieces on my website ever since. Fast forward to May 2026, and I made what some mi

How to Protect Muscle While Losing Weight

Losing weight sounds simple on paper: eat less, move more. But your body doesn’t just pull from fat stores when calories drop—it also taps into muscle. And that’s a problem. Muscle is what keeps your metabolism humming, your body strong, and your performance high. Lose too much of it, and not ...

How to Train While Taking GLP-1 Medications

One trend that keeps coming up lately—and for good reason—is training with GLP-1 medications like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro. These medications are changing the game for fat loss. People are seeing significant drops in body weight, reduced appetite, and better control around food. Naturally, ...

Mediocre Miles: I DQ’d My 50K… And I’m Okay With It

If you’ve been following along on Instagram, Strava, or through the Mediocre Miles series on my blog, you know I’ve been training for a 50K ultramarathon. That race came and went a few weeks ago—and unfortunately, I had to disqualify.

What Should I Eat Before and After My Workout?

Nutrient timing is knowing what and when to eat before, during and after exercise. Nutrient timing can also be one of the most confusing areas of sports nutrition, and for good reason! The answers to the questions above depend a lot on context…individual variability, intensity/sport, duration, foo...

👉🏼DQ is always better than DNF

16 weeks of work derailed by a missed left turn. Sometimes it be like that 🤷🏻‍♂️

Luckily, I wasn’t completely lost, but ended up on the course backwards. Missing the turn cut out 3 miles and 700 feet of elevation, definitely a decent advantage on this course 😂.

Outside of the DQ, I had an awesome day. Showed up in great shape, threw down some great times over 3000ft of elevation gain/loss, and executed an awesome taper, carb load, and fueling plan (shoutout to citrus maple gels 🙌).

Nothing but smiles and a sense of accomplishment. I always learn a lot about myself through training for these events and am 100% stoked to have the opportunity to do it!

Few weeks off and the it’s on to the next 💃🏼

What Heart Rate Training Actually Means (And How to Use It)

Heart rate training is one of those things that sounds technical, but it’s actually pretty simple once you strip it down. At its core, heart rate training is just a way to measure how hard your body is working in real time. Instead of guessing your effort based on how you feel, you’re using your...

How To Build Muscle (In Plain English)

Let’s make this simple—because muscle building gets overcomplicated fast. At its core, building muscle comes down to three things: Challenge the muscle Recovery from that challenge Repeat this process with consistency That’s it . Everything else is just detail.

I understand why people ask their Personal Trainers about food.

Want to lose weight? It comes down to the food.

Want to build muscle? It comes down to the food.

So why not ask your Trainer?

The thing is, it’s not your Trainers job to coach food.

I work my tail off on getting people consistent around exercise 3 times a week. Getting people consistent with 21+ meals a week is - quite literally- someone else’s full time job.

Not to mention the specific metabolic and emotional individualization that comes along with it.

So yeah, let me count your reps and program your sets and let’s get really good at that.

Leave the fitness to the pro’s. Leave the food to the pro’s.

💪
