Virginia's Democrat U. S. Senator Carter Glass

Openly supported segregation and defended Jim Crow laws, and led the charge to disenfranchise SO-CALLED Black voters thru POLL TAXES and LITERACY TESTS during the 1901-1902 Virginia Constitutional Convention. Rosters dropped from 147,000 to 21,000.

(Segregation wasn't an issue for everyone, in fact some argue that Desegregation was counterproductive)

When I was the building substitute at Paul Munro Elementary School, I used to take the children outside to walk around as we talked and learned words, spoke sentences, touched trees and grass, counted, recited facts... I took them in the cafeteria to read over the microphone to the 5th graders while they ate lunch (public speaking training), and had spelling contests using dry erase boards on the floor. Unconventional! They loved it and it was me solo, I didn't need help, didn't need to split the class up. They had fun, they learned and they MOVED. Sitting still 7 hours a day is unnatural.
