When cancer treatment brings financial challenges, support matters.

The Weersing Family Grant Fund provides financial assistance to qualified cancer patients who are currently undergoing treatment, helping with needs such as food, shelter and transportation.

Created through the generous gift of the Weersing Family, the fund helps lessen some of the financial burden that can come with cancer.

SHARE YOUR SURVIVOR DAY STORY

Every cancer journey is different.

And every story matters.

Maybe there was a moment when you realized, β€œI can do this.”

Maybe someone said something that gave you hope.

Maybe it was a person who stood beside you when you needed them most.

Or maybe there is something you learned along the way that you wish someone had told you when your journey began.

We want to hear your story.

The Hawthorne's Survivor Day Story allows cancer survivors to share a moment that mattered, words of encouragement for someone beginning their cancer journey, and anything else they'd like others to know.

You can also share a photo that brought you peace or meaning during your journey.

Your story could be the encouragement someone else needs today. πŸ’™

Cancer can feel incredibly isolating.

But one of the things we hear again and again from people who have found their way to The Hawthorne is how much it means to have people who understand.

At The Hawthorne, patients, survivors, families, friends, volunteers, and supporters come together to talk, listen, learn, laugh, share experiences, and simply be there for one another.

Our Resource Center offers support groups, educational resources, a comfortable place to gather, and people who are willing to listen.

Sometimes you need information.

Sometimes you need someone to talk to.

And sometimes you just need to know that someone understands.

That's what community looks like at The Hawthorne. πŸ’™

If The Hawthorne has been part of your cancer journey, we'd love to hear from you:

What did having someone beside you mean during your hardest day?

Share your experience in the comments. Your words may be exactly what someone else needs to hear today.

No One Should Have to Choose Between Cancer Treatment and Paying Their Bills.

That's the reality for so many families in the area right now. A cancer diagnosis doesn't just bring hard days at the hospital; it brings hard choices at home.

Since 1965, The Hawthorne Cancer Foundation Resource Center has stood in that gap, providing financial grants, transportation assistance, and emotional support so patients can focus on healing instead of how they're going to make it through the month.

We do this through:

β›½ Gas cards, so getting to treatment doesn’t mean going without something else.

πŸ’— Pink Chair Project RVA, gifting recovery recliners to women healing after breast cancer surgery.

πŸ’™ The Weersing Grant, providing direct financial relief for families facing impossible bills during treatment.

🏠 The Hawthorne Center, a place for connection, support groups, and simply being understood.

None of it happens without people who believe no one should walk through cancer alone.

You don’t need a big gift to make a real difference. ❀️

β›½ $20 can help provide gas for a treatment appointment.

πŸ›’ $50 can help toward a month of groceries for a family in the middle of chemo.

Whatever you’re able to give goes straight to someone in our community who needs it right now. πŸ’™

30,000 Virginia residents are diagnosed with cancer each year.

And for many people, a cancer diagnosis affects much more than their health.

Treatment can bring financial challenges, time away from work, transportation concerns, and everyday expenses that don't simply disappear.

At The Hawthorne Cancer Foundation, we believe no one should have to face those challenges alone.

That's why we provide financial, emotional, and material support to cancer patients and their families when they need it most.

πŸ’™ Cancer may be part of someone's story. They shouldn't have to face the journey without support.

WHAT HAPPENS AT THE HAWTHORNE?

It's a question we think more people should know the answer to.

The Hawthorne is more than a place to visit.

It's a place where someone facing cancer can come to find resources, ask questions, connect with others, and simply take a moment to breathe.

It's where patients and families can find educational materials and information.

It's where conversations happen.

It's where support groups gather.

And sometimes, it's simply a comfortable place to sit with someone who understands.

Cancer can make life feel overwhelming.

Our hope is that when someone walks through our doors, they know they don't have to figure everything out alone.

πŸ’™ That is what The Hawthorne is here for.

Have you ever visited the Hawthorne Cancer Resource Center or attended one of our support groups?

We'd love to hear what being part of a supportive community has meant to you.

What Can Your Support Make Possible?

For someone facing cancer, the hardest part isn't always the treatment itself.

Sometimes it's figuring out how to get to treatment.
Sometimes it's putting food on the table.
Sometimes it's keeping up with everyday expenses while trying to focus on getting better.

This is where your support can make a difference.

The Hawthorne Cancer Foundation provides financial, emotional, and material support to cancer patients and their families throughout the Greater Richmond community. πŸ’™

Your generosity helps us continue providing practical assistance and a place where people affected by cancer can find support, resources, and community.

Every gift helps us continue walking alongside those who need us most.

If The Hawthorne's mission has ever touched your heart, please consider making a donation today, or share this post so more people can learn about the work happening in our community.

πŸ’™ Together, we can help make sure cancer patients don't have to face every challenge alone.
