Today, I interviewed a woman from Iraq about her pregnancy and about the maternity care in Iraq for my book series.
Conditions are so different there.
There is no trust between doctors and patients.
Women are not respected and are medically gaslit if they bring up symptoms or concerns.
There are no childbirth education classes.
There is no one to ask about childbirth.
Women have traumatic experiences and share horror stories instead of wisdom.
Patients pay out of pocket for tests at private clinics so they decide which tests to request.
People don’t trust that testing is accurate at hospitals.
Preeclampsia rates are high.
C-section rates are 89% at private clinics.
The Pre-Motherhood Movement is about helping mothers to improve their health and birth outcomes.
My mission is to help women around the world.
Everyone deserves to have good health along the perinatal journey, access to quality maternity care, and better birth outcomes.
Everyone deserves to be informed about what they can do to prevent health conditions and to improve health conditions that they currently have.
I’m going to do my best to figure out how I can help women to have access to childbirth and health information in Iraq.
I have my Substack publication for those who speak English but I will start brainstorming to see how I can help other communities too.
This is humanity. Equal rights for all women.
