The NAEMT Foundation is working to double the number of EMR and EMT scholarships awarded in 2027, helping remove that first barrier for the next generation of EMS professionals. Earlier today, NAEMT leaders sat down with members and colleagues in Orlando to talk about what's happening in Washington and what it means for EMS. The federal policy decisions being made right now will shape how our profession is funded, staffed, and recognized, and they will be made with or without us in the room.

Congratulations to Edward M. Racht, MD, recipient of NAEMT's most prestigious honor, the 2026 Rocco V. Morando Lifetime Achievement Award! Dr. Racht has spent more than 35 years advancing EMS and healthcare systems, currently serving as Chief Medical Officer of Global Medical Response, the nation's largest air and ground EMS provider.

Yesterday's NAEMT preconference courses put EMS professionals on the floor and in the room: hands-on tactical casualty care scenarios, pediatric emergency care in the EPC beta course, and the Mental Health Resilience Officer course, focused on the people who take care of everyone else. Thank you to every instructor and student who spent a full day building skills that show up on someone's worst day.

The room is full and the focus is real. The World Trauma Symposium in Orlando is in its final stretch, and the afternoon session is challenging some long-held assumptions about prehospital spine care. Great questions, sharper conversations, and a lot of EMS professionals learning from each other.
