The people who live longest share something simple: a life built around movement, real food, and people they love.

The research here is stronger than most people realize. The Harvard Study of Adult Development, which has followed participants for over 85 years, found that the quality of our relationships at age 50 predicted health at 80 better than cholesterol levels did. A large meta-analysis from Brigham Young University found that strong social ties were associated with a 50 percent greater likelihood of survival over the study periods, an effect comparable to quitting smoking and larger than the effects of obesity or physical inactivity.

Movement tells a similar story. Studies of the world’s longest-lived communities show that daily activity is woven into how they live. Researchers estimate they get natural movement every 20 minutes or so throughout the day, and the body responds remarkably well to that steady, consistent rhythm.

We believe a long, healthy life is built in two places. It starts with the habits you practice at home: the walks, the meals, the people around your table. And it grows stronger with intentional care, knowing your numbers, catching small things early, and making decisions about your health with a physician who knows your whole story.

Longevity starts at home. We’re here for the rest.

Mocktails are back, and not just as a trend. Americans are drinking less than they have in nearly a century.

After a long summer day, if you want that ritual without the alcohol, the sugar crash, or the foggy morning after, consider making a mocktail. The catch is that a lot of the bottled and restaurant versions carry as much sugar as a soda, so the trick is building your own. Here is one we keep coming back to:

Garden Berry Spritz:

- Fill a tall glass with ice
- Muddle a small handful of blackberries and raspberries with 5 or 6 fresh mint leaves
- Add the juice of half a lime and a splash of coconut water, about 2 ounces
- Top with sparkling water
- Finish with a dash of aromatic bitters and a lime wheel

That glass gives you real vitamin C from the lime and berries, potassium and electrolytes from the coconut water, and a good dose of antioxidants from the berries and mint. The water base keeps you hydrated through the heat, and because there is barely any added sugar, you stay even instead of riding a spike and a crash.

It tastes like something you made with care, cool and a little fancy. You get the evening wind-down and a clear head in the morning, refreshed and steady rather than wired or wiped out.

Whole-body health can start with what's in your glass. We are here for the rest.

The Sunshine Protection Act is back in front of Congress. The President said this week he'll work hard to pass it.

The headline says we'd stop changing our clocks. What it doesn't say: which clock we'd keep.

Sleep medicine, cardiology, and circadian research have all lined up behind permanent standard time, the version where mornings keep their light. Stanford modeling in 2025 estimated permanent standard time could prevent roughly 300,000 stroke cases per year. Permanent daylight saving would prevent about 220,000.

Under permanent daylight saving time in Mississippi, our December sunrise in Jackson wouldn't break until nearly 8 a.m. Still, many (including President Trump) still support having "more sunlight" later in the day.

Which do you prefer? Daylight Savings Time or Standard Time?

🔥 Fascinating link between dental health and your labs:

Your inflammation markers keep creeping up. You’re working on eating well, sleeping enough, moving your body. So why won’t they settle?

Here’s something almost nobody checks for: an old tooth.

A quiet infection can sit at the root tip of a tooth that had a root canal or crown years ago. It usually doesn’t hurt, and it won’t show up on the routine X-ray at your cleaning. So it just sits there, keeping your immune system slightly switched on. That low, steady inflammation can quietly drive up markers like hs-CRP, and over time it can spill into other systems too, including how well your body handles blood sugar.

Folks with these lesions tend to run higher inflammation markers, and some studies show poorer blood sugar control alongside it. The clearest insulin data still comes from lab and animal research. And a few studies show those markers settle back down after the tooth gets treated.

If your markers are up and no one can explain why, two easy moves:

Ask for hs-CRP and fasting insulin on your next blood draw.
Ask your dentist for a periapical X-ray on any tooth with an old root canal or crown.

We’ve seen this in a few of our own patients. Stubborn inflammation that wouldn’t settle, until a periapical film found an infection no one was looking for. We’ve watched A1Cs come down too. Could this be you?

PCOS just got a new name.

The international endocrine consortium published in The Lancet what 30 years of research has been pointing at: the condition isn't driven by ovarian cysts. It's driven by multiple hormone systems interacting at once.

It's now PMOS — Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome.

Same diagnosis. Bigger picture. If you have PCOS, you have PMOS and the new name finally accounts for the millions of women who never had visible cysts and were told the framing didn't quite fit.

Five systems carry the load: hormones, metabolism, reproduction, skin, mental health. A proper PMOS visit checks all five.
