Have you checked your skin lately?
Many people spend time caring for their face but overlook the rest of their skin. As a licensed esthetician and educator, one of the things I often encourage clients to do is become familiar with their skin from head to toe.
Your skin is the body’s largest organ, and changes in the skin can sometimes be the first sign that something needs attention. While many growths, moles, spots, and skin tags are completely harmless, others may require evaluation by a medical professional.
Be mindful of:
• New moles or growths
• Changes in size, shape, or color of existing moles
• Irregular borders
• Persistent itching or tenderness
• Bleeding or non-healing sores
• Dark or unusual discolorations
• Rapidly growing lesions
Knowing what is normal for your skin can help you recognize when something changes.
As estheticians, we do not diagnose medical conditions. However, part of our responsibility is to observe the skin, educate our clients, and encourage them to seek medical evaluation when appropriate.
Early detection saves lives. Whether it’s a harmless skin tag, a benign growth, or something more serious, having it checked sooner rather than later can make all the difference.
Take a few moments this week to perform a self-skin examination. Look at your face, scalp, neck, arms, legs, hands, feet, and even areas you don’t normally see. If something doesn’t look right, don’t ignore it.
Your skin has a voice. Make sure you’re listening.

💡 Skin Tip: Remember the ABCDE rule when looking at moles:
• A – Asymmetry
• B – Border irregularity
• C – Color variation
• D – Diameter larger than 6mm
• E – Evolving or changing appearance
Any mole or lesion that exhibits these characteristics should be evaluated by a healthcare professional.
