Lately I’ve been reflecting on how self-care is so much more than a bath or a spa day—both of which I absolutely love. To me, real self-care is about finding ways to feel energized and fulfilled without running yourself into the ground.

Sometimes it looks like moving my body in a Nia class, sharing laughter with friends, or preparing meals ahead of a busy week. Other times it’s quieter—journaling, slowing down, or simply playing with my cats. Each of these moments helps me reconnect with myself in a meaningful way.

I’ve also been thinking about how our values shape the way we care for ourselves. Last year, I focused deeply on family. This year, I’m leaning into taking care of me—and discovering what that truly means.

Tomorrow Dr. Corwin will return to NIU for the first time in eight years. When she left NIU, she was stepping away from something she loved—teaching—and moving toward a new direction. Since then, that path has evolved into a career that draws on many of the skills and areas of study she has gathered along the way.

Today, she works with patients, clients, creatives, businesses, and universities who invite her into their lives to cultivate psychological wellness, emotional literacy, and healthier ways of navigating relationships. Her work has grown into joyful collaboration and engagement with communities locally, nationally, and globally—opportunities she could not have imagined at the time.

She remains humbled by the journey and grateful to do work she truly loves. As she returns tomorrow, she does so with gratitude for the lessons that began there—especially the ones that helped her discover where she truly belongs.

Now a deeply respected leader at Garden Health Group, she leads with heart—setting the example and inspiring those around her to be better and do better every day.

Please, please. This is avoidable. Vaccines work and are safe. Herd immunity is real, but has to be a high percentage of the population. Be careful out there.
