Apple cider vinegar: health hack or hype? 🍎

ACV gets a lot of attention for blood sugar, insulin resistance, and weight loss—but what does the evidence actually show?

Research suggests apple cider vinegar may have a modest effect on blood sugar, particularly for people with insulin resistance or type 2 diabetes. But when it comes to weight loss? The effects appear small and inconsistent.

If you choose to use it:
🍎 Dilute it—never take it as a straight shot
🥤 Start with 1 tsp in at least 8 oz of water
🍽️ Try it with or around a meal
🦷 Remember: the acidity can affect your teeth and throat
⚠️ Check with your healthcare provider if you have gastroparesis, significant reflux, low potassium, or take certain diabetes medications or diuretics.

Bottom line: ACV can be an optional tool, but it can’t replace the nutrition habits that actually move the needle.

Save this for the next time someone tells you ACV “melts fat.” 👀🍎

Ghee: healthy or unhealthy? 🧈✨ The answer isn’t that simple.

Ghee has been part of traditional cooking for generations—and it can absolutely fit into a balanced diet. Because it’s clarified butter, most of the water and milk solids are removed, giving it a rich flavor, longer shelf life, and a higher smoke point that works well for sautéing and roasting.

It also provides some vitamin A, and like other dietary fats, helps your body absorb fat-soluble vitamins from meals.

Ghee contains very little lactose, so some people with lactose intolerance may tolerate it better than regular butter. However, it’s not necessarily safe for someone with a true milk allergy.

And remember: ghee is still concentrated in calories and saturated fat, so portion size and your overall dietary pattern matter.

Traditional foods don’t need to be labeled “good” or “bad.” Enjoy ghee for its flavor, cultural significance, and cooking benefits while balancing it with fiber-rich foods and unsaturated fats. 🌿

Nutrition is about the bigger picture. 💛

Save this for later & share it with someone who loves ghee!

Did you know cloves contain a natural compound called eugenol? 🌿

Eugenol has been studied for its potential antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial properties. While laboratory research is interesting, that doesn’t mean cloves should be used to treat infections or replace medical care.

Instead, think of cloves as another flavorful plant food to incorporate into your diet. Try a small pinch in oatmeal, chai, coffee, curries, or baked goods, or simmer whole cloves in tea or apple cider and remove them before drinking.

⚠️ Use cloves in normal culinary amounts and avoid swallowing concentrated clove essential oil.

Do eggs really raise your cholesterol? 🥚

Not necessarily — and you may not need to give them up.

For many people, eggs can be part of a heart-healthy diet. What often matters more is the overall meal. Foods high in saturated fat, such as bacon, sausage, butter and cheese, can have a greater effect on LDL cholesterol.

🥚 If your cholesterol is normal, a whole egg a day can fit into a healthy diet for many adults.
❤️ If you have high LDL cholesterol or heart disease, you may need to be more mindful of how many yolks you eat.
💪 Want more protein? Add egg whites for extra protein without the cholesterol.

The takeaway: Don’t just focus on the egg — look at the whole plate.

Your individual needs depend on your cholesterol levels, heart health and overall eating pattern, so always discuss your specific needs with your healthcare professional.

What have you heard about eggs and cholesterol; healthy food or something you were told to avoid?

Stop overpaying for brown eggs. 🥚 The shell color only tells you the breed of the hen — not how healthy the egg is. Brown and white eggs are nutritionally identical.
If you want your dollars to actually count, read the label instead:
🐣 Conventional — caged, standard feed
🏠 Cage-free — no cages, indoors only
🌤️ Free-range — some outdoor access
🌱 Pasture-raised — real foraging time, best nutrition (more omega-3s, richer yolks)
🏷️ Certified Organic — organic non-GMO feed, no routine antibiotics, outdoor access
Pick pasture-raised for the best nutrition — add organic for the gold standard. Save this for your next grocery run and follow for more dietitian-approved grocery breakdowns. 👇

💧 Do you really need electrolytes in your water every day?

Electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, and magnesium are important for fluid balance, nerve function, and muscle function—but that doesn’t mean everyone needs to add an electrolyte supplement to their water.

And yes, plain water can hydrate your cells. Your body naturally regulates the movement of water through processes like osmosis, using electrolytes and hormones to maintain fluid balance.

When might adding electrolytes be helpful? If you’re sweating heavily, exercising for an extended period, spending significant time in hot weather, or losing fluids through vomiting or diarrhea, you may be losing electrolytes along with water.

Your environment matters, too. Someone working or exercising outside in the Texas heat may have very different hydration needs than someone spending most of the day indoors in New York. Even then, activity level, sweat rate, diet, and individual health all matter.

And don’t forget, we get electrolytes from food, too.

The bottom line: Hydration isn’t one-size-fits-all. Sometimes plain water is exactly what you need, and sometimes replacing electrolytes makes sense.

💧 The goal isn’t to add more electrolytes; it’s to replace what your body actually needs.

🍎 Can nutrition affect acne?

Acne is complex, and there isn’t one food—or one diet—that causes or cures it. However, research suggests that what we eat may influence acne in some people.

Foods and eating patterns worth considering:

🍭 High-glycemic foods: Diets high in sugary drinks, sweets, and refined carbohydrates may contribute to acne in some individuals.

🥛 Dairy: Some studies have found an association between milk consumption and acne, but this doesn’t mean everyone with acne needs to eliminate dairy.

🥑 Think about what you can ADD: Focus on fiber-rich carbohydrates, fruits and vegetables, adequate protein, and healthy fats from foods like nuts, seeds, avocado, and olive oil.

Rather than unnecessarily eliminating entire food groups, look at your overall eating pattern and your individual response to different foods.

And remember, nutrition is only one piece of the puzzle. Hormones, genetics, skincare, medications, and other factors can also influence acne. Persistent or severe acne should be discussed with a dermatologist or healthcare provider.

Healthy skin starts with looking at the whole picture.

Can you actually eat too little while trying to lose weight?

Yes—and it happens more often than you might think.

When calories are reduced too aggressively, it can become difficult to get enough protein, fiber, essential fats, vitamins, and minerals. You may also experience fatigue, increased hunger, constipation, difficulty concentrating, or poor workout recovery.

And remember: weight loss on the scale doesn’t necessarily mean you’re losing only body fat. Without adequate nutrition and appropriate resistance exercise, lean muscle can be lost too.

Instead of asking:

“How little can I eat?”

Try asking:

“How can I create an appropriate calorie deficit while still giving my body what it needs?”

Sustainable weight loss isn’t about eating as little as possible. It’s about finding an approach that supports both your goals and your health. 🌿
