Biocatalysis is playing an increasingly important role in enabling more selective, efficient, and sustainable pathways in drug discovery.
At Piramal Discovery Solutions in Ahmedabad, we leverage biocatalytic approaches to design greener and highly selective transformations supporting both early discovery and scale-up.
Our lab-scale development utilizes controlled systems such as glass reactors and incubator-based setups for whole-cell reactions, while scale-up is enabled through jacketed reactors with in-line monitoring of pH and temperature across aqueous, biphasic, and co-solvent systems.
Some of the ways we apply biocatalysis include:
- Chiral alcohol synthesis using alcohol dehydrogenases (ADHs) for enantiopure intermediates
- Kinetic resolution via lipase-catalyzed transesterification of racemates
- Green epoxidation using peroxygenases, avoiding heavy metals while maintaining high selectivity
- API amination through transaminases to access chiral amines
