Dr Leena Alexander - DFW Deep Sleep

Dr Leena Alexander - DFW Deep Sleep Breathe. Sleep. Rejuvenate. I’m Dr. Leena Alexander—but first, I’m a mom. MY PROMISE TO YOU:
I will never give you another quick fix. This is my life’s work.

And just like you, I know what it’s like to search for answers when nothing seems to work. I didn’t start this journey as “just another doctor.” I started it as a mother on a mission—to help other moms, leaders, and families finally understand why sleep struggles don’t just ‘go away.’
Because what if the problem isn’t in the bedroom? What if it’s in the airway, the breathing, and the way our child

ren’s bodies are wired to rest? This isn’t about “just getting more sleep.” This is about helping families heal at the root level. I will never say “they’ll grow out of it.”
I will give you science-backed, holistic, airway-focused answers that finally help your child (and YOU) sleep deeply, naturally, and fully restored. This is my legacy.

Stress affects the nervous system.
The nervous system affects the airway.
The airway affects sleep.

And then the cycle keeps feeding itself.

That’s why so many people feel exhausted, tense, anxious, foggy, and stuck… even when they’re “doing everything right.”

Grinding.
Forward head posture.
Mouth breathing.
Poor sleep.

The body is adapting the best way it knows how.

I used to look only at the teeth. Now I ask a different question:

Why does the body feel unsafe in the first place?

Because every effect has a cause.

When the nervous system can no longer adapt to stress, the body starts compensating to survive.

Sometimes the symptom isn’t the problem. It’s the body trying to protect you.

Kids & Airway: The Signs.

Most parents are looking at the teeth.
Very few are looking at the airway.

Crowded teeth.
Dark circles.
Mouth breathing.
Restless sleep.
Snoring.
Constant fatigue.

These are not random childhood phases.

They can be signs your child’s body is struggling to breathe well.

I see parents all the time who were told, “they’ll grow out of it.”

But many adults with sleep apnea, narrow jaws, and chronic exhaustion…
started with the same signs as kids.

The body adapts early.

Tonight, just notice.

When your child is relaxed and watching TV,
are their lips closed… or open?

Thumb sucking
might not be
“just a habit.”

It might be
your child’s body
trying to survive.

Most parents are told
it’s only emotional.
Only comfort.
Only a phase.

But sometimes the body is compensating.

I see kids all the time who don’t just have a thumb-sucking habit… they have signs of airway stress too.

Mouth open.
Restless sleep.
Dark circles.
Narrow jaws.

The body is always trying to adapt.

And when the tongue isn’t doing its job, the thumb often takes over.

Not just for comfort… but to help create expansion.

Because the mouth, the airway, and the nervous system are all connected.

This isn’t about blame. Most parents were never told to look at it this way.
Tonight, just notice.

Is your child’s thumb sucking only a habit… or is their body asking for help?

Grateful for .spencerdupre and the way you share your knowledge with so much clarity and purpose.

Tuck your chin and try to breathe.

Go ahead. Put your chin down toward your chest and breathe through your nose. Notice how hard it is. Now lift your chin up and breathe again. Easier, right?

That's what I'm seeing all the time in kids. Their heads are stuck forward. So it's no surprise they can't sleep. It's no surprise they're breathing through their mouth at night. They're not being lazy. They're trying to survive.

When a child's posture collapses forward, their airway collapses with it. The physics don't lie. Their body is literally suffocating and the only way to get air is to open their mouth. Mouth breathing at night isn't a habit. It's an emergency response.

So they mouth breathe. Their jaw doesn't develop right because the muscles aren't positioned correctly. Their sleep gets worse. They wake up tired. And then we wonder why they can't focus in school.

It starts with posture. It always does.

The micro-test: Have your kid tuck their chin and try to breathe through their nose. Then lift it. Ask them which feels easier. They'll understand immediately why their body is doing what it's doing.

Your forward head posture is breaking your bite.

When someone comes in with their head tilted forward, I always tell them we need a chiropractic evaluation immediately. Your neck is supposed to support about 10 to 15 pounds. But every inch your head moves forward, that weight doubles. Two inches forward and your neck is now holding 30 pounds.

All those muscles start working overtime just to keep your head from falling off your shoulders.

But here's what I see in my chair. When your neck collapses forward, your jaw gets pulled out of place. Your bite shifts. So I adjust it. And then you leave. And then your neck pulls it back out of alignment again. I adjust it again. We're in a cycle.

A lot of dentists never talk about this part. We just keep adjusting. But if your neck is still broken, everything we do gets undone. You need a chiropractor working on the foundation at the same time I'm working on the jaw. Otherwise we're both wasting our time.
Your bite isn't just a dental problem. It's a posture problem. It's a neck problem. It's a whole-body problem.

The micro-test: Take a photo of yourself from the side right now. Where is your ear relative to your shoulder? If your ear is in front of your shoulder, your neck is already working too hard.

Start with clarity.

That forward head posture?
That’s your nervous system protecting your airway.

Most people think it’s just bad posture.
Sit up straight. Pull your shoulders back.

But your body is not careless.
It’s compensating.

I see this all the time.
Women doing everything right…
still stuck with tension, fatigue, poor sleep.

When the airway feels threatened,
the body shifts into protection.

The head moves forward.
The neck tightens.
The front of the body takes over.

It’s not random.
It’s survival.

And if you only chase the posture,
you miss the reason it’s there.

Tonight, just notice.
Where is your head sitting right now?
Stacked over your shoulders… or reaching forward?

Your posture might be telling you
how safe your body feels to breathe.

Thank you .spencerdupre for sharing your knowledge so generously.

To my beautiful Olivia,

Watching you reach this moment has been one of the greatest joys of my life. You did not get here because the road was easy — you got here because you kept going. Through obstacles, disappointments, pressure, and moments that could have broken your spirit, you chose perseverance. You chose grit. You chose courage. And now look at you — stepping boldly into your future at Texas Tech University Honors College on the pre-med track.

I hope you always remember this: your strength was built long before this graduation day. The resilience that carried you through hard seasons will also carry you through late nights studying, moments of homesickness, difficult exams, and every challenge ahead. You already have what it takes.

As you move away to pursue your dream, know that you are not walking alone. You carry the prayers, love, and pride of everyone who believes in you. Stay grounded in who you are. Lead with kindness. Work with excellence. Trust God in the moments when you feel stretched beyond your limits.

The world needs compassionate healers, and I truly believe you are becoming one.

Go build the life you prayed for, Olivia.
This is only the beginning.

We are beyond proud of you. 🤍

How do you know
this is affecting
your child’s airway?

Most parents don’t.
They’re told it’s normal.

Open mouth
Restless sleep
Dark circles
Crowded teeth

It doesn’t seem
like a big deal…
until it is.

Sleep isn’t always rest.
Breathing isn’t always enough.

When the airway is limited,
the body adapts.

Lighter sleep
More movement
Less recovery

Tonight, just notice.

When your child is at rest,
are their lips closed
or open?
