More people are choosing to call downtown Rochester home—and that growth benefits our entire community.

Approximately 1,600 housing units are currently in some stage of development in and near downtown. More downtown residents mean more neighbors supporting local restaurants and shops, more people enjoying our parks and public spaces, and more activity throughout the day and evening.

DMC EDA Executive Director Patrick Seeb recently joined News-Talk 1340 KROC AM & 96.9 FM's Andy Brownell on Rochester Today to talk about the demand for downtown housing, the importance of offering a range of housing options, and what this continued growth means for Rochester.

Please join us in welcoming Cindy M. to the DMC team!

Cindy started in June of 2026 as Communications Coordinator at DMC Economic Development Agency, providing administrative support for the Executive Director and DMC EDA staff.

Cindy spent over 34 years with Mayo Clinic in progressive roles. Starting in Orthopedic Surgery, Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, and then Hospice as an Administrative Assistant.

When asked what she likes about working downtown at DMC, Cindy said, "It's very busy, the people are always upbeat. The place has a certain momentum, an energy that moves you forward. I walked around the block the other day to clear my head. There was a person playing jazz in Peace Plaza, the sun was shining... it was so peaceful, and I said to myself, I GET to live here! I find something everyday at DMC that brings me joy."

Meet DMC Intern Lilly Sundsbak from Rochester, MN!

School/Major:
Columbia College Chicago / Major: Illustration (with Minors in Graphic Design and Animation)

What drew you to the DMC internship?
I’ve always been deeply interested in how public art can shape communities and activate urban spaces. DMC’s emphasis on thoughtful, large-scale economic and community development felt like the perfect place to explore how art and strategy intersect on a city-wide level.

What are you most excited to work on?
I am incredibly excited to help build out the strategic framework for a potential Rochester mural program. Getting to structure something that will guide public art for the community is a dream project.

What’s something you hope to learn during your time here?
I hope to gain a deeper understanding of the administrative and structural sides of public art, specifically how funding, community frameworks, and city strategy come together to make massive creative projects possible.

How does this internship align with your career goals?
My long-term goal is to work in creative direction, working with both high-level strategy and visual graphics. Learning how to scale community themes into a structured designs gives me invaluable experience leading large-scale creative initiatives.

What’s one fun fact about you that most people don’t know?
I recently got to design an official digital race poster for a Formula 1 team (Visa Cash App RB) for the Canadian Grand Prix! I love motorsport design and team car liveries for fun!
