Baby Formula Expert

Baby Formula Expert At Baby Formula Expert, we educate parents about infant formula and baby nutrition to help them feel confident in the decisions they make for their baby.

Baby Formula Expert is the brainchild of Dr. Bridget Young. As an expert in infant nutrition, and a Mom herself, Dr Young was frustrated with the lack of information and support available to parents who choose to feed their babies formula. She found herself answering the same questions from patients over and over again, so she founded BabyFormulaExpert.com as a resource for both parents and health

care providers. At Baby Formula Expert, we share the most cutting-edge research in the field of infant nutrition in easy-to-understand language. We also provide lots of step-by-step guides and hands-on resources for parents and health care providers. There are so many options in baby formula and parents are often left to pick one with no information. If a baby needs to switch formulas, parents can feel helpless and worried about how to choose the right option. At Baby Formula Expert, we help you eliminate that fear and feel confident in your decisions. We educate parents about exactly what differs between baby formula brands. We teach them how to choose a formula that is right for their baby while avoiding ingredients that may cause issues. If parents decide to switch formulas, our resources help them to do this like a scientist, leaving nothing to chance! We believe that you are the expert on your own baby! Our goal is to help you feel empowered and confident in the feeding decisions you make for her. This way, instead of worrying, you can spend your precious time enjoying your baby!

Let's be honest. We all love fat (butter, cream, you name it!). So do babies! In fact, babies have a VERY high fat diet (lucky little chubbers ๐Ÿ‘ผ). Making sure there is lots of healthy fat in their early solid foods has loads of benefits.

MFGM in formula โ€” what the research actually says

MFGM (milk fat globule membrane) is showing up everywhere in formula marketing right now. And the science behind it is genuinely exciting! But there is an important distinction that companies are not always being upfront about.

The studies showing real benefits for babies โ€” fewer infections, improved brain development outcomes โ€” those were done with MFGM added as a concentrated supplement ingredient. Not with MFGM that just happens to be present in cream.

When a formula uses whole milk, yes, you are getting some MFGM. Probably great! But is it the same amount used in those clinical trials? We honestly do not know. And a company citing those studies to describe their whole milk formula is not quite telling the full story.

This is not a reason to avoid whole milk formulas. It is just a reason to read the marketing with a critical eye ... which is exactly what we are here for. ๐Ÿ’™

What is the Best Formula for Infants who also get Breast Milk? ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿคฑ

It's a trick question!!!

ALL formulas are regulated to meet the needs of infants 0-12 months.
ALL formulas are made to be a safe substitute for breast milk (when it's not available).
So it's silly to say one formula is just for babies also getting breast milk.

No matter if your baby is also getting breast milk or not - Focus on finding the best protein/ fat / carb blend that keeps your baby comfortable.

This will be different for every baby. Every baby is different and perfect. ๐Ÿ‘ผ

Breast milk is roughly 60% whey (and 40% casein)
Cow's milk is roughly 20% whey (and 80% casein)

If you are just starting out, talk to your doctor about a baby formula that has added whey or is 100% whey to more closely resemble breast milk in certain ways.๐Ÿผ

Nara's real selling point (they won't say it this way)

Nara markets their formula by saying they never use skim milk. And that is true! But here is what they are not saying โ€” and honestly, it is the more interesting part.

If a formula has the same total protein as other whole milk formulas but uses zero skim milk, that means: they are using more cream than anyone else. More cream means more fat-soluble vitamins coming naturally from the milk. More cholesterol. More milk fat globule membrane.

"We never use skim milk" and "we use more cream than anyone else" are the same statement. The second one just tells you why it actually matters.

That is the Nara difference. Is it worth the price tag? That is a longer conversation โ€” full breakdown at the link in bio. ๐Ÿ’™
