Hello! Hi! It’s time to sync up!Rochester, NY! Registration for Blood + Bound has opened! Put it on the Calendar - November 8th!
What is Blood + Bound? I truly think the names of my class scare people away sometimes - but to be honest they attract the BEST! I vacillate on the name but I’m feeling BLOOD FORWARD this time!

To put it simply - in this class we learn about tracking our cycles + bins our own journals.

Familiarize yourself with the different phases + the hormonal dances that take place in our bodies. Learn how to discern what’s happening within by identifying physiological processes happening in real time.

Personally - tracking my cycle has helped me to avoid getting pregnant when I didn’t want to be, get pregnant when the time was right, and navigate a deeper understanding of my body when things have been *off*. Tracking is a great tool to have in your toolkit and I recommend it far and wide. Not only do we explore the nuances of bleeding bodies - but there’s an opportunity to tap into your creative side! Design your own journal cover and learn how to bind all of this information and a whole year’s worth of charting space together.

Then! Take it home and tuck it away safely. No apps. No one skimming your data.I love this class because it creates space for connection to self and also the other folks taking it.Feel free to DM me with any questions.I hope to see you there. As always sliding scale options and scholarships available.https://www.alyssaactaea.com/shop/p/blood-and-bound-nov-2026

Comment WALK if you want me to send you the deets on my next educational plant + fungi walk in Rochester!

I’ve been wildcrafting for just about two decades and I love sharing all that I’ve gleaned over the years. Here’s a few of my favs that I stumbled upon on my forest walk today. Please consider my harsh nasally Rochester accent when making fun of my Latin 😅

•Maitake is starting to POP - I left sooo many babies that will hopefully fruit tenfold.

•Amanita bisporigera- North American Destroying Angel. Note the bulbous base. The forest floor was littered with these. These guys can be deadly. I’m ready for some myco nerds to come at me though for my ID.

•SOOOO many beautiful native wild flowers including our native Helianthus (sun flower!!) and Monarda fistulosa aka wild bergamot or bee balm. I love bee balm as a carminative + respiratory support for viruses.

•The Goldenrods 😩😭 magnificent antihistamine + anti-inflammatory (think allergies!!)

•White snake root!! Beautiful native - super toxic!! I’ve seen people mistake this for boneset and nettle! Learn your lookalikes!!

•Our native low bush blueberries 🥹

•I wish I had enough time to share the Latin of the Autumn Olive - Elaeagnus ubellata- I feel like I’m casting a spell every time. They taste like sour patch kids! Pls don’t plant them in your yard! 😅

•The my faaaaav heart medicine Hawthorn ❤️‍🔥

I hope you can join me IRL sometime.
There’s still space if ya wanna join this weekend.

Here is a stack of my favorite books I’d recommend to anyone embarking on their journey into the plant portal 🌱🌀

With so much information out there and everyone on the internet being an expert the water is MURKY! These are all reputable authors with real lived experience NOT AI! Each of these books have deeply informed me on my own journey + many of them you can find second hand!

Thanks for caring 💫✨💛🌱

And thank YOU!
and a few I can’t find on IG - Mary Siisip Geniusz, James A Duke, James Green.

The Herbalist’s Scope of Practice in New York

Hi y’all - as I’m gearing up for my workshop this weekend I found myself wanting to make a paper I wrote for school at more accessible.

Find a new blog post on my website on The Herbalist’s Scope of Practice in New York State.

As we wade through this murky water together we learn to find our place in this ecosystem. The FDA prohibits claims that herbs can diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any diseases. The definitive rule around the liability of practicing as an herbalist in New York State is unclear aside from it being illegal to practice medicine without a license. This is why language is CRUCIAL for the practicing herbalist. We, as herbalists, will continue to tread lightly and speak carefully to assure we cause no harm while supporting our community with continuity and care.
