Today marks 6 months since my pancreatic transplant! 🎉

I feel great, taking my medication morning & night, and having my bloodwork checked every couple weeks. 💊 🩸

One medication ended this week - yay! The amount of another medication has increased to compensate for the other drug going away. The medical team is keeping a close eye out for infection during this transition period.

At one year, I get to ring the bell at UW Health 🔔

My scar is healing nicely! It’s twice as long as what you can see.

I still have to take precautions while doing things like yard work so that I don’t get an infection or injury that could compromise my transplant.

😷 Prevents dirt from entering my mouth & nose
🤓 I should be wearing actual protective eyewear, but glasses protect my eyes from an injury
🤠 Protection from the sun. My chances of getting skin cancer is much higher now.
🧴 I’m covered in sunscreen.
🥤 I took multiple breaks to rest & hydrate.

5️⃣ Months out from surgery and doing great! 🎉

I found a lab I love! 💜

HealthLab in Bettendorf, IA (not Moline)
1979 Spruce Hills Dr, Bettendorf, IA 52722

✔️ Clean, professional office
✔️ Kind, professional, and helpful staff
✔️ Staff made sure I had access to the mobile app to see the results
✔️ I did not feel pressured by the company or staff to their religious views

I’ve been to 3 other labs in the QC and they were all the opposite of what’s listed above ⬆️

If you need to have your blood drawn, I highly recommend HealthLab in Bettendorf 💯

Yesterday was Donor Remembrance Day 💙💚

Every time I attempted to write a message, I couldn’t find the words. Someone had to die in order for me to live. That’s a difficult thing to write about because it’s bittersweet.

I don’t know anything about my donor - the person who chose to be an organ donor and generously gave me the gift of a life free of Type 1 Diabetes.

I have the opportunity to write a letter to the donor family. Some people don’t want to know anything about their donor or the family, and that’s perfectly understandable. I know organ recipients who have written the donor family and never heard back. There’s no right way to approach this unique situation. I do plan on sending my donor family a letter to let them know how much their loved one’s gift has changed my life. It will be up to them if they want to write back. Either way, I’m eternally grateful for that person’s decision to be an organ donor 💐

Today is Donor Remembrance Day. 💙💚 Today and every day, the donation and transplant community comes together to honor and celebrate the donor heroes who have given the gift of life through organ, eye and tissue donation. We are sharing forget-me-not flowers to symbolize that donors and their legacy of generosity will always be remembered.
also honors donor families and serves as a reminder that they are always a part of the Donate Life community. Association of Organ Procurement Organizations - AOPO
