🍃 Where the Holy Meets the Ordinary

Across the centuries, women mystics have offered the Church a grounded wisdom shaped not by status, but by the real texture of daily life. Their insights didn’t come from lofty platforms — they came from caregiving, community, labor, and the quiet courage of paying attention. These women remind us that spiritual authority often rises from those who have lived close to the bone of things, where faith is less about performance and more about presence.

One of these voices is Teresa of Ávila, a 16th‑century Carmelite reformer and spiritual teacher whose life unfolded in the midst of political tension, church upheaval, and the scrutiny placed on women who dared to lead. Teresa’s spirituality was shaped not only in prayer but in the shared work of the convent — the sweeping, cooking, mending, and tending that held her community together. When she wrote, “The Lord walks among the pots and pans,” she was naming a truth she lived: God is not distant from our ordinary tasks. God is already moving through them.

And that truth still matters. For those of us who were taught that holiness lives only in church spaces or spiritual achievement, Teresa’s words free us. They remind us that God meets us in our kitchens, our caregiving, our fatigue, our real lives — not the curated versions we were told to present.

What if today we trusted that God is already here in the work our hands are doing?
