Imagine a world without hope for disabled veterans. Imagine a nation where veterans returned from war without the benefits we enoy today. Imagine disabled veterans having to endure every hardship on their own, without the hope of being able to support their families. For the majority of sick and injured veterans, the fight for life that began on the battlefield had really only begun when they retu
rned home. Before there was a VA health care system, reintegration counseling or vocation rehabilitation, disabled veterans came together to form the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). What DAV members have learned over the better part of a century is that the fight for fair treatment for veterans was one that had to be fought for by every generation that served and sacrificed. What members of the Blackhawk life chapter of the DAV is about is to stand with every veteran who faces an uncertain future and as a result of wartime service-connected disabilities and assisting their families face these issues with them. What challenges future disabled veterans will face as a result of their service is unknown. But no matter the difficulties, we as DAV members will continue the fight to ensure the nation lives up to its obligations for its fighting men and women. Now more than ever, it is essential that veterans work together with a strong, united voice. Now more than ever, it is essential to ensure everyone is aware of the key issues we face. Now more than ever, it is essential to fight to maintain the benefits we've earned through our service and sacrifices. We do this not just for past generations of disabled veterans but for present and future generations of disabled veterans.
