“Wait… I get to CHOOSE my hearing aids?” Yes, you do! 👏🦻

When purchasing prescription hearing aids, you deserve to understand your options and have a voice in your care.

At Midcoast Hearing Wellness Center we offer hearing aids from all major manufacturers, giving you choices in styles, features, technology, and price points.

As your audiologist, my role is to explain your hearing test results, recommend appropriate options, and help you choose based on your hearing needs, lifestyle, preferences, and budget.

Treating hearing loss also involves more than choosing a device. A personalized plan can include professional fitting and verification, follow-up adjustments, communication strategies, and auditory training to help you make the most of what you hear.

Your hearing. Your goals. We’re a team working together to optimize your treatment plan. 💜

🧠 It’s National Train You Brain Day! 🧠

Your ears pick up sound, but your brain helps you make sense of it. That’s why hearing and tinnitus care can include training your brain!

💬 LACE AI Pro provides personalized listening exercises designed to strengthen your ability to understand speech, especially in background noise. Think of it as practice for following conversations at restaurants, family gatherings, and other challenging listening situations.

🔔 Oto uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) techniques to help you change how you respond to tinnitus. Guided exercises help address unhelpful thoughts, stress, and attention patterns so tinnitus can have less impact on your everyday life.

With consistent practice and professional guidance, you can work toward more confident listening and less bothersome tinnitus. Progress looks different for everyone.

Today marks the inaugural Ear SHIELD Day.

The American Suppressor Association and the Academy of Doctors of Audiology have joined together to establish October 2 as an annual day dedicated to raising awareness about firearm-related hearing loss and the importance of protecting your hearing every time you shoot.

The message is simple:
Suppressors + Hearing Protection = SHIELD
Insulated Ears, and Lower Decibels

Fi***rm noise can cause immediate, permanent hearing damage. Suppressors can significantly reduce noise exposure, but they do not make fi****ms quiet. That’s why Ear SHIELD Day encourages shooters to pair suppressors with properly fitted hearing protection.

Academy of Doctors of Audiology President Jill Davis, Au.D., said: “Ear SHIELD Day gives every audiologist a simple, evidence-based message to share with patients: use a suppressor and wear hearing protection, every time.”

ASA President and Executive Director Knox Williams said: “Suppressors are hearing safety devices, plain and simple.”

ASA and ADA are also calling on policymakers to remove remaining barriers to suppressor access and recognize hearing conservation as a public health priority.

🎉 Midcoast Hearing Wellness Center is ONE! 🎉

A year ago, Midcoast Hearing Wellness Center started with an empty space, a vision, and a commitment to create something different for our community.

Every element was built from the ground up m; from the walls and equipment to the services we offer and, most importantly, the relationships we’ve formed with our patients.

Today, that vision has grown into a thriving, locally owned practice that I am incredibly proud of. 💜

Over the past year, we’ve had the privilege of helping so many people hear better, manage tinnitus, stay connected to the people they love, and take a more proactive approach to their hearing and overall wellness.

Building something from nothing is never easy. But watching it become a place that people trust with their care has made every challenge worth it.

To every patient who walked through our doors, referred a friend, left a kind review, shared one of our posts, or simply believed in what we were building, thank you.

You are the reason Midcoast Hearing Wellness Center is thriving today.

Here’s to a year of hearing better, living well, and caring for our Maine community and to everything still ahead.

Happy Birthday, Midcoast Hearing Wellness Center! 🎂

👂 Your Ear Canal Does More Than Carry Sound!

The ear canal is a small but important part of your hearing system. It funnels sound toward the eardrum and it has its own built-in cleaning and protection system: earwax!

🟠 Earwax (cerumen) is actually good for your ears. It helps:
• Trap dust, dirt, and debris
• Protect the delicate skin of the ear canal
• Keep the canal from becoming too dry
• Naturally move debris outward where it can fall away

That means a little earwax is normal and healthy.

The problem comes when wax builds up or becomes impacted. Too much can cause muffled hearing, fullness or pressure, discomfort, itching, and sometimes tinnitus.

🚫 And those cotton swabs? They can push wax deeper into the canal instead of removing it.

If your ears feel plugged, have them checked before trying to clean them yourself. Sometimes what feels like hearing loss is simply a wax blockage!

September is…

🧏🏻‍♀️Awareness creates understanding.
🤟Understanding creates connection.

Hearing isn’t one-size-fits-all—and neither is communication.

This month is an opportunity to celebrate Deaf culture, increase awareness, improve accessibility, and recognize the many ways people experience and navigate the world through sound, sign language, technology, and visual communication.
