GaitBetter

GaitBetter GaitBetter is an innovative solution for gait rehabilitation & prevention using Virtual Reality. The It's also a big hit with patients!

Gait rehabilitation and fall prevention meets virtual reality. With measurable, significant, and repeatable improvements to motor-cognitive function, GaitBetter is a cutting-edge solution for , , and beyond. The semi-immersive experience combining any treadmill and the GaitBetter system could potentially prevent 80% of falls and provide more effec

tive treatment in a shorter period of time than any other existing modality. GaitBetter turns any existing treadmill into a smart, personalized, safe, and fun gait training system. It offers real-life scenarios for clients to practice, such as walking in a busy city street, avoiding puddles, walking at night, and responding to distractions. Our VR system allows GaitBetter therapists to completely personalize training for each patient. Combined with decision making, memory exercises, and attention exercises, these multi-tasking workouts significantly improve dynamic balance, endurance, gait strategies, and cognitive functions. It leads to rapid and sustained improvements in gait, cognitive skills, and decreased fall risks. GaitBetter provides multiple benefits especially for gait rehabilitation caused by aging, high risk for falls, functional deterioration, balance issues, Parkinson's and MS, stroke victims, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, joint replacements, amputations, soft tissue injuries. VR treadmills are beneficial to businesses such as:

- Physical therapy clinics: A cost effective solution for everyone where patients GaitBetter quicker and better.

- Assisted Living homes: VR treadmills are a safe and effective method of building patient confidence and motivation. GaitBetter has helped thousands of customers regain their independence, self-confidence, and improve their quality of life.

Gait symmetry matters and when that symmetry breaks down, the whole system starts to compensate in ways that can quietly cause bigger problems over time.

Critical, that can result in increased fall risk. When one leg consistently does more work than the other, balance becomes less stable. The body has to constantly “correct” itself mid-step, which increases the chance of missteps or falls, especially in older adults or neurological conditions.

That's why we developed our Symmetry-Check Module, that assesses a patient’s walking symmetry by measuring step length differences over a 1-minute walk.

It provides a summary report including:
• Cadence (steps per minute)
• Minimum, maximum, and average step length (right and left)
• Total Symmetry Score (0-100%)

The Symmetry Score Interpretation allows PTs and rehab professionals to identify patient gait symmetry and monitor improvements over time as patients continue their treatment with the GaitBetter system.

• 85% and above: Normal symmetry
• 65-84%: Mild asymmetry
• 40-64%: Moderate asymmetry
• Under 39%: Severe asymmetry

One of the key focuses of Older Americans Month 2026 is 'Prevention'.

We often talk about 'The Fall Cycle'.

One fall leads to fear, reduced activity, muscle weakness, poorer balance, and increased isolation.

These changes make another fall more likely, creating a downward spiral.

Breaking the cycle requires confidence-building, targeted strength and balance training, and safe, real-world walking practice for long-term recovery and independence.

Prevention beats out post-fall treatment.

May is Older Americans Month.

John is 88 years young.

He is probably an 'older American'.

He doesn't really act like an older American, feel like an older American, or live like an older American.

Everyone should age like John!

May is Older Americans Month.

The theme for 2026 is 'Champion Your Health', focusing on wellness, prevention and active aging.

Prevention and active aging are critical to ensuring we age as healthy as possible, and add life to years.

It is important to remember that aging well doesn’t start at 70, in reality it starts decades earlier.

Staying active, maintaining balance, and prioritizing mobility can significantly reduce the risk of falls, hospitalization, and loss of independence.

Prevention isn’t a single action but rather it’s a habit that we can positively impact.

This Older Americans Month, let’s shift the conversation from being reactionary to being active and investing in long-term health.

As we come to the end of April's Limb Loss Awareness Month, it is important thet we also acknowledge one of the hardest parts of limb loss - the psychological impact.

- The fear of falling.
- The hesitation with every step.
- The loss of confidence.

Gait rehabilitation plays a critical role in rebuilding more than movement, it restores trust, in the body, in the prosthesis and ultimately in the ability to move forward again.

Limb loss changes everything but it doesn’t need to end mobility.

In the U.S., more than 2 million people live with limb loss, and that number is expected to grow significantly in the coming decades.

For many, the biggest challenge isn’t just getting a prosthesis, but rather it’s learning how to walk again.

Gait rehabilitation is where independence is rebuilt.
Step by step, patients relearn balance, coordination, and confidence.

Continuing our focus on mobility for amputees during April's Limb Loss Awareness Month.

Seeing an amputee walk confidently on a treadmill using GaitBetter is a powerful reminder of what’s possible with the right training.

By combining treadmill walking with virtual simulation, we create a safe, engaging environment to rebuild gait, balance, and coordination. The system challenges users to adapt in real time, improving weight shifting, symmetry, and confidence with a prosthesis.

Most importantly, it turns repetitive rehab into something motivating and meaningful. For amputees, every step forward is progress toward greater independence, mobility, and quality of life, and that’s exactly what this kind of training is designed to achieve.

Seeing an amputee walk confidently on a treadmill with GaitBetter is a powerful reminder of what’s possible with the right training.

In the U.S., over 2 million people live with limb loss and this number is expected to double by 2050.

Recovery isn’t just physical, it’s also neurological. By combining treadmill training with cirtual simulation, patients can safely rebuild gait, improve symmetry, and regain confidence with a prosthesis.

Because for millions of people, walking again isn’t just movement, it’s independence, dignity, and a return to everyday life.

This video shows a patient walking on a treadmill while using the GaitBetter system.
