I recently came across a roadside sign during my trip to Sedona that made me laugh: “Dry Beaver Creek.”
Funny at first… but it also made me think.
Because for many women, this isn’t just a sign, it’s something they’re quietly experiencing.
Vaginal dryness.
Discomfort with intimacy.
Irritation, burning, or itching.
Frequent UTIs.
And often, it’s something women don’t talk about or are told is just “part of getting older.”
But it doesn’t have to be.
💡
So… what’s actually going on?
As we move through our 40s and beyond, estrogen levels naturally begin to decline. This hormone plays a key role in keeping vaginal and urinary tissues healthy.
When estrogen drops, you might notice:
* Less natural lubrication
* Thinner, more sensitive tissue
* Increased dryness or irritation
* More frequent urinary symptoms
There’s a name for this: Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM)—and it’s incredibly common.
🤯
Why this matters for your daily life
These changes don’t just affect one area—they can ripple into:
* Discomfort during exercise or movement
* Pain with intimacy
* Avoiding activities you once enjoyed
* Ongoing frustration with UTIs or irritation
If you’re working with a physical therapist (especially for pelvic health), these symptoms can also impact your progress and comfort.
‼️‼️
The good news: there are solutions ❤️
One of the most effective (and often underused) treatments is vaginal estrogen.
This is different from full-body hormone therapy. It’s:
* Low-dose
* Applied locally
* Designed to support the tissues right where you need it
For many women, it can:
* Restore moisture and comfort
* Improve tissue health
* Make intimacy more comfortable
* Help reduce recurrent UTIs
