✨ Today, I did something hard. ✨
Today, I completed my misogi—a 5K run/walk to raise funds for the town of Tarboro, NC… and I’m so grateful I showed up.
I’ll be honest, I was a little nervous going in. My husband was supposed to come with me for moral support, but he wasn’t feeling well, so I had to go by myself. Walking into a race where I didn’t know anyone pushed me outside my comfort zone in a real way.
But I made a decision: I’m going to talk to the first person I see.
And I did 😊
Met a brother from Kenya, told him I’m from Ghana, and just like that—I didn’t feel alone anymore.
When the race started, I stuck to my plan: alternate between running and fast walking to protect my knee. I put on my African music, and that carried me through.
The winds were strong, and there were moments I felt tired—but I didn’t stop. I adjusted, I kept going, and I stayed committed.
And when I crossed that finish line…
⏱️ 46 minutes
🏅 3rd place in my age group (50–59)
I just stood there for a moment like… wow, I really did this.
I’m so proud of myself—not because it was easy, but because it wasn’t.
This experience reminded me:
💛 You can do hard things
💛 You don’t have to feel ready to start
💛 Just keep going, even if you have to adjust along the way
This was more than a race for me.
I truly believe… this is the beginning of my race life. 🏃🏽♀️✨
