☀️ Sunscreen: Mineral vs. Chemical — What’s the Difference?
Not all sunscreens work the same way.
🧴 Mineral Sunscreen
(also called physical sunscreen)
✅ Uses minerals like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide
✅ Sits on top of the skin and reflects UV rays
✅ Starts working immediately after application
✅ Less likely to cause skin irritation
✅ Often preferred for children and sensitive skin
🧴 Chemical Sunscreen
✅ Uses ingredients that absorb UV rays and convert them into heat
✅ Usually goes on more clear and feels lighter on the skin
✅ Easier to rub in without a white cast
✅ Needs about 15–20 minutes after application before it’s fully effective
✅ May be more likely to irritate sensitive skin
The Most Important Thing
The best sunscreen is the one you’ll actually wear consistently.
☀️ Wear sunscreen daily.
☀️ Reapply every 2 hours when outdoors.
☀️ Don’t forget hats, sunglasses, shade, and protective clothing.
At Simplified Health, we recommend sunscreen in general because protecting your skin from sun damage and skin cancer is what matters most. If given the choice, we tend to lean toward mineral sunscreens because they are gentle on the skin, use simple active ingredients, and have a strong safety profile.
