✨ What an incredible afternoon at our Lunch & Learn last week! ✨

We talked about something most don’t realize: there are other healthcare options! 

A huge thank you to Terry from the Grants Pass and Josephine County Chamber, Ashlee from Planstin, Joel from Revolution Benefits, and everyone who came ready to learn and ask great questions.

What if healthcare was actually accessible?

If you’ve had ear pain, ringing in the ears, dizziness, or pressure that keeps coming back… but antibiotics never seem to fully fix it… READ THIS 👇👂🔥

One of the most overlooked causes of chronic ear symptoms in primary care may actually be REFLUX.

Not just classic heartburn — but also “silent reflux” (laryngopharyngeal reflux or LPR), where stomach contents travel upward and irritate tissues in the throat and upper airway.

Research suggests this inflammation may affect the Eustachian tube — the structure responsible for pressure regulation and drainage in the middle ear. (pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov)

When that system becomes irritated or inflamed, symptoms may include:
✔️ Ear pain
✔️ Ear pressure/fullness
✔️ Popping or crackling
✔️ Ringing in the ears (tinnitus)
✔️ Dizziness or imbalance
✔️ Muffled hearing

Some research has also identified associations between GERD and tinnitus symptoms. (nature.com)

This is why identifying the ROOT CAUSE matters in primary care. Sometimes the solution is not another antibiotic or allergy medication — it may be addressing underlying reflux and inflammation.

And many people with “silent reflux” don’t even realize they have it because they may not experience obvious heartburn symptoms.

One of the biggest misconceptions in primary care?
Thinking every earache needs antibiotics. 👂

During spring allergy season, many cases of ear pain are actually caused by inflammation affecting the Eustachian tube — the structure responsible for balancing ear pressure and drainage.

When that tube becomes swollen from allergies, pressure builds behind the eardrum and can lead to:

✔️ Ear pain
✔️ Ringing in the ears
✔️ Dizziness
✔️ Ear fullness
✔️ Crackling/popping
✔️ Temporary hearing changes

This is also why symptoms commonly worsen after flights or elevation changes.

In many cases, treatment focuses on reducing inflammation — not antibiotics. Nasal steroid sprays like Flonase or Nasacort can be very helpful, but patients often stop too soon because they expect immediate relief.

These medications may require 4–8 weeks of consistent use to fully reduce inflammation and improve Eustachian tube function.
