Epidural or no epidural, you’re still the one giving birth.
I don’t understand why childbirth has become a competition over who can handle the most pain.
Some women choose to go unmedicated, and that’s amazing.
Some women choose to get an epidural, and that’s amazing too.
But somewhere along the way, we’ve started treating one birth experience as more impressive than the other.
Getting an epidural doesn’t mean you couldn’t handle childbirth. And choosing to go without one doesn’t mean you’re trying to prove something.
An epidural doesn’t do all the work for you. You still have to labor, push, and recover from bringing a baby into the world.
And an unmedicated birth deserves just as much respect.
There is no trophy for enduring more pain during childbirth.
Every woman deserves to make the decisions that feel right for her body and her birth without being judged for them.
Because at the end of the day, how you managed your pain doesn’t determine how strong of a mother you are.
