In Loving Memory of Ione Quigley
Today, we join our relatives across the Rosebud Sioux Tribe in honoring the life of Ione Quigley, a respected leader, educator, and language keeper.
Ione dedicated her life to teaching and preserving the Lakota language, guiding countless students with patience, compassion, and a good heart. Her work at Sinte Gleska University and throughout our communities helped strengthen our language and culture for future generations.
She walked in a way our ancestors taught us, with Wolakota, Wowahunhan, and a strong spirit of care for others. Her impact will continue to live on in every person she taught, encouraged, and uplifted.
As shared by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe, Administrative Leave has been granted on Friday, May 1, 2026, in honor of Ioneβs funeral services.
The RST WIC Office will also be closed on this day as we join in remembrance and respect.
We encourage everyone to take this time to reflect, support one another, and honor her life.
Our thoughts and prayers are with her family, friends, students, and all who were blessed to know her.
Her memory will forever be part of a circle that never ends.
Wopila taΕka, Ione. You will not be forgotten.
