You’ve always been a dream, sweet baby, and we will never take for granted that this dream is coming true.

If your baby is calm, alert and in a ready to play state, choosing a firm, flat surface instead of a swing or bouncer is always more supportive of development.

On a firm, flat surface, your baby can stretch out, move their arms a legs well and turn their head more freely (hello, round head!). The floor also elicits primitive reflexes that allow your baby to eventually integrate them (this is important for movement development).

The floor is also the best place for your baby to learn to tolerate floor time. They need short bouts of practice in order to develop tolerance.

When babies can move freely, they learn that movement is fun and safe…this is essential for developing their curiosity to move and explore!

If your little one is over it, try babywearing if you still need your hands free. And if all else fails, utilize a device for as short a period of time as possible.

If floor time is stressful for your little one, we can help! Head to the link in our bio to request a virtual or in person appointment. Floor time is meant to be fun and stress-free for the whole family!✨

When it comes to babies and children, there are so many ways to make decisions that support development, sustainability and justice/equality all at once. Isn’t that cool?!

One swap for essentials is to choose local or online small businesses as opposed to the big corporations who are funding sketchy initiatives. Small business owners will thank you!

Buying second hand or borrowing from your village is another amazing way to support sustainability and control who is receiving your dollars.💪

The baby gear market is SNEAKY. While there are some incredible essentials out there, there is also a lot of scamming parents into thinking “this device is *needed* for development.” As a development expert, I can tell you that the floor is the best place for development…but those companies don’t want you to know that.😉 Essentials like a car seat, stroller, crib/bassinet, and high chair are needed. But the bouncers, swings, jumpers, exersaucers? Not a “need-to-have”. I can do another post diving into devices more deeply…

Oh and find a baby carrier that you love….IMO they are life savers (try before you buy if possible!)!

Tag your favorite small businesses for baby/kid essentials - let’s show them some love!

As a mom and pediatric PT, I’m all about the super simple activities that keep kids entertained! Scooping and pouring is always a fun one! I love this activity for many reasons including:

⚪️ It encourages standing for little ones who are working on standing goals.

⚪️ It encourages focus and attention.

⚪️ It encourages shoulder and grip strength.

⚪️ It encourages hand-eye coordination, weight-shifting and crossing midline.

⚪️ It exposes children to an element of messy play (and opportunities to practice cleaning up!).

As always, supervise at all times so no small pieces go in the mouth. I also encourage having a towel nearby to clean up spills to avoid slipping.

Have you tried this with your little one?!
