Brain fog happens in kids too.

Sometimes it looks like:
• zoning out
• forgetfulness
• low focus
• trouble processing information
• staring at homework for long periods
• mental overwhelm
• struggling to retain information

And while it’s easy to assume a child is “not trying,” sometimes the brain is simply exhausted.

At Greater Atlanta Integrative Pediatrics, we often look deeper at possible contributors to brain fog and focus challenges in children, including:
✨ poor sleep
✨ low iron/ferritin
✨ nutritional deficiencies
✨ inflammation
✨ gut-brain imbalances
✨ nervous system overload

Children learn best when their brains and bodies feel supported.

Sometimes the issue isn’t motivation.
Sometimes the brain simply needs help functioning better. 💚

Preparing for school isn't just about buying backpacks.

For children with ADHD, a successful school year often starts weeks before the first day of class.

Now is a great time to review:

🧠 Supplements & Medication, if prescribed
🥗 Nutrition and eating habits
😴 Sleep schedules
📚 Daily routines
📋 School accommodations
💚 Emotional readiness

At Greater Atlanta Integrative Pediatrics, we also evaluate whether underlying factors such as nutrition, gut health, inflammation, or other medical concerns may be affecting focus and attention.

For some children, individualized nutrition plans, targeted supplements, IV nutrient therapy, or other integrative therapies may be appropriate as part of a comprehensive treatment plan.

Every child is different—which is why every plan should be, too.

Autism is not one-size-fits-all.

Some children are talkative.
Some are non-speaking.
Some love routines.
Some seek movement.
Some avoid eye contact.
Some make great eye contact.

Every child has unique strengths, challenges, and ways of experiencing the world.

At Greater Atlanta Integrative Pediatrics, we believe understanding comes before assumptions. Our team works alongside families to help each child thrive through compassionate, individualized care.

If you have concerns about your child's development, trust your instincts. Early conversations can make a meaningful difference.

Two Years. Two Honors. One Incredible Community. 💚

I am truly honored and grateful that Greater Atlanta Integrative Pediatrics has been recognized by **My Roswell/Crabapple** for the second year in a row.

🏆 2025 — Best Pediatrician**
🏆 2026 — Best Integrative Medicine**

To me, these awards represent more than recognition. They represent the families who trust us with their children, the relationships we've built, and the continued growth of Greater Atlanta Integrative Pediatrics.

My heart has always been in pediatrics. But over the years, my vision has grown—to look even deeper, ask more questions, and combine conventional pediatric care with integrative and functional approaches to better support the whole child.

And none of this happens because of one person.

I am incredibly thankful for our amazing providers, nurses, phlebotomist, front desk and administrative team who show up every day and pour so much into our families. I see what you do, I appreciate what you do, and I never take it for granted.💚

Most importantly, thank you to our GAIP families and the Roswell/Crabapple community. Your trust, referrals, reviews, votes, and continued support mean more to me than you know.

Same heart. Growing vision. And we're just getting started.💚

Moms, You Were Never Meant to Do It All Alone. 💗

At Greater Atlanta Integrative Pediatrics, we spend a lot of time caring for children—but we also see the moms behind those children.

And sometimes, Mom needs support, too.

This can be especially true for parents raising children with autism, developmental differences, chronic health concerns, or other special needs.

Between appointments, therapies, school meetings, medications, meals, work, laundry, errands and simply being Mom...the mental and physical load can become a lot.

That's why Dr. Maia wanted to share a local resource with our GAIP families: Soft Mama Life Co.

Their services are designed to give moms something that's often in very short supply:

TIME. 💕

Depending on the membership, support may include:

✨ Childcare & babysitting
✨ Mother's helper support
✨ Personal errands
✨ Organization & mom-life tasks
✨ Light household help
✨ Cleaning services
✨ Household resets

Sometimes self-care isn't a spa day.

Sometimes it's having someone clean the kitchen, run an errand, help with the kids, or simply take one thing off your plate.

And for our special-needs moms especially: asking for help doesn't mean you're doing less for your family. It may give you the breathing room you need to keep doing everything you do. 💚

If you've been wishing you had an extra set of hands, this may be a resource worth exploring.

When most people think of ADHD, they think about difficulty paying attention.

But attention is only part of the story.

Your child's brain communicates through tiny chemical messengers called **neurotransmitters**. These chemicals help regulate:

🧠 Focus and attention
😊 Mood and emotions
⚡ Motivation
😴 Sleep
📚 Learning and memory
🎯 Impulse control and executive functioning

If these neurotransmitters are out of balance, children may struggle with more than just sitting still. They may also experience anxiety, emotional outbursts, poor motivation, brain fog, difficulty starting tasks, or trouble sleeping.

At **Greater Atlanta Integrative Pediatrics**, we believe it's important to understand **why** symptoms are happening—not just treat them.

For some children, **neurotransmitter testing** may be recommended as part of a comprehensive evaluation. This specialized testing looks at markers related to the brain's chemical messengers to provide additional information about how the nervous system may be functioning.

While neurotransmitter testing is **not used by itself to diagnose ADHD**, it can be one piece of the puzzle. Combined with your child's medical history, symptoms, nutrition, sleep, gut health, laboratory findings, and clinical evaluation, it may help guide a more personalized treatment plan.

Our goal is to look beyond the label and better understand the whole child.

Because every child deserves care that's as unique as they are. 💚

When most parents think about Lyme disease, they think of hiking trips or a classic bullseye rash.

But Lyme disease in children isn't always that obvious.

In fact, many children never develop the "bullseye" rash, and symptoms can look like many other common childhood illnesses.

Watch for symptoms such as:

✔️ Persistent fatigue
✔️ Frequent headaches
✔️ Joint or muscle pain
✔️ Brain fog or difficulty concentrating
✔️ Mood or behavior changes
✔️ Recurring fevers
✔️ Neck pain or stiffness
✔️ Symptoms that seem to come and go

Because these symptoms overlap with many other conditions, Lyme disease can sometimes be overlooked.

That's why it's important to have your child evaluated by a healthcare provider who understands when Lyme disease or other tick-borne illnesses should be considered and what testing may be appropriate based on your child's symptoms and history.

At **Greater Atlanta Integrative Pediatrics**, **Kimberly Steinberg, CPNP-PC**, has extensive experience evaluating and treating pediatric Lyme disease and other tick-borne illnesses. She works closely with families to look beyond the symptoms and develop an individualized care plan for each child.

🌿 If your child just "hasn't been themselves" and you can't seem to find answers, don't ignore your instincts. Sometimes asking the right questions is the first step toward finding the right answers.

💚Well Visits Are About More Than Shots 💚

When was the last time you felt like you had enough time to talk with your child's pediatrician?

At **Greater Atlanta Integrative Pediatrics**, our well-child visits are designed to be **longer, more in-depth, and centered around your child—not the clock.**

Yes, we'll discuss recommended immunizations, but that's only one part of the visit.

We also take the time to talk about:

📈 Growth and development
🧠 Learning, behavior, and school success
😴 Sleep habits
🥗 Nutrition and healthy eating
😊 Emotional and mental wellness
🏃 Physical activity
💚 Milestones and developmental concerns
❓Your questions—because no concern is too small

Whether your child is a newborn, a busy toddler, or a growing teenager, our goal is to partner with your family to support their health today and for years to come.

A well visit isn't just a yearly checkup.

It's a conversation about helping your child thrive.
