I am really pleased with the garden! The lettuces are loving the light, the herbs banging! Sugar snap peas are growing up the lattice at a rate of 3 inches a day!

We are currently looking for two clients in southeast Oakland County that would like to have us build a hoop house for 2/3 of our regular cost.
We are a new company trying to gain momentum. If you are interested in this offer we ask one thing from you after the completion of the project: Spread the word about your experience with family, neighbors and via social media.
That said, we would love to have you come by and tour our place in Royal Oak. See for yourself what a hoop house adds to a garden!

Second raised bed built and planted with herbs. Sugar snap peas are trained to the trellice. Lettuces are happy in first raised bed. Temperatures inside are 10 - 20 degrees farenheit over outside.

So, beyond discovering Luna's craftmanship in the hoophouse I also noted that the outside temp was 28°F. Yet the temp in the hoophouse was 48°F. This with no film on the screen door. I believe the strawbales are creating a lot of heat as they slowly decompose. Additionally, I am adding sawdust to my raised beds in order to increase their ability to retain moisture. The sawdust comes from a pet project we have building screech owl nesting boxes and pollinator hotels.

Funny anectdote: I went out to look over hoophouse this morning and found that our dog Luna had snuck in and had started "tilling" the soil. She dug a hole approximately 3'x2' in a garden bed that is designated for a raised straw bale bed. Perhaps she is as excited for a new growing season as I am. Or, perhaps there was an old bone buried there.😊

I am currently gathering materials to build a second strawbale raised bed in our hoop house. I have been very happy with the first one I built for a variety of reasons. I plan to plant Autumn and Winter crops in the next two weeks. Last year I grew vegetables until mid December with only passive heat. This year I am intending to extend my growing calender. I am going to add water filled containers painted black to absorb day sun and radiate heat at night. Additionally, the straw bales will radiate heat as they decompose.
