🕷️ Tick Season is Here — Protect Yourself & Your Family! 🌿

As the weather warms up in Virginia, ticks become much more active. While many tick bites are harmless, some can spread illnesses like Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever or other diseases.

✅ How to Prevent Tick Bites:
• Wear long sleeves and pants when hiking or working outdoors
• Use EPA-approved insect repellents containing DEET or picaridin
• Treat clothing and gear with permethrin when appropriate
• Stay on cleared trails and avoid tall grass/brush
• Check your body, pets, and children carefully after outdoor activities daily

🔎 Common Places Ticks Hide:
• Behind knees
• Under arms
• Around the waistband
• Scalp and hairline
• Behind ears

🩺 Watch for Symptoms After a Tick Bite:
• Rash (especially a bullseye-shaped rash)
• Fever or chills
• Fatigue
• Body aches or joint pain
• Headache
• Swollen lymph nodes

⚠️ When to See a Provider:
• You develop a rash after a tick bite
• Fever or flu-like symptoms occur
• The bite area becomes increasingly red, swollen, or painful
• You are unable to completely remove the tick
• Symptoms develop days to weeks after a bite

🧼 How to Remove a Tick Safely:
Use fine-tipped tweezers to grasp the tick as close to the skin as possible and pull upward steadily. Clean the area well afterward.
