With summer right around the corner and pools now open, it’s a great time to build simple sun-safe habits for kids. Here are practical, CDC-aligned tips to keep your little ones protected while they play:

☀️ Find Shade When You Can
Try to keep kids in the shade, especially between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. when the sun’s rays are strongest. Trees, umbrellas, and pop-up tents are your best friends.

🧴 Don’t Skip the Sunscreen
Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen (SPF 15 or higher). Apply it 15–30 minutes before going outside and reapply every 2 hours—or sooner if kids are swimming or sweating.

👕 Dress for Protection
Lightweight, long-sleeved shirts and longer shorts or pants offer extra protection. Tightly woven fabrics block more UV rays.

👒 Add a Hat & Sunglasses
A wide-brim hat protects the face, ears, and neck. Sunglasses that block 100% of UVA and UVB rays help protect their eyes.

👶 Special Care for Babies
For babies under 6 months, keep them out of direct sunlight. Use shade, hats, and protective clothing instead of sunscreen whenever possible.

💧 Keep Them Cool & Hydrated
Encourage frequent water breaks and watch for signs of overheating like fatigue or dizziness.

Small habits like these go a long way—helping kids enjoy summer safely while reducing their risk of sunburn and long-term skin damage.

🕷️ Tick Season in Kentucky: What You Need to Know 🕷️

As the weather warms up across Kentucky, ticks become more active—and so does the risk of tick bites. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends staying alert and knowing the signs of tick-borne illnesses.

🔍 What to watch for after a tick bite:

• Fever or chills
• Rash (especially a bullseye-shaped rash)
• Fatigue or muscle aches
• Headache
• Swollen lymph nodes

These could be early signs of illnesses like Lyme disease or Rocky Mountain spotted fever.

🛑 What to do if you find a tick:

• Remove it promptly with fine-tipped tweezers
• Clean the bite area with alcohol or soap and water
• Monitor your symptoms for the next few weeks

🌿 Prevention tips:

• Use EPA-registered insect repellent
• Wear long sleeves and pants when in wooded or grassy areas
• Check yourself, kids, and pets after being outdoors

If you develop symptoms after a tick bite, contact our office right away to be scheduled for a visit!

Stay safe and enjoy the outdoors, Kentucky! 🌳

Community Connection Month : Making a Difference Together

This month we wanted to give back to the people and place we serve every day. Together we organized a community food drive allowing all employees, patients or anyone who wanted to donate to our God's Food Pantry. We collected the food all week and then our provider Molly O'Neal, APRN delivered the food. We want to thank everyone that contributed in helping our community.
