Lemongrass and Cholesterol..fascinating plant juice study.

As concerns about statin side effects continue to grow, researchers are exploring whether nature might offer additional ways to support healthy cholesterol levels.

In one clinical study, participants took capsules containing 140 mg of lemongrass essential oil—roughly 3 drops—and 36% experienced improvements in their cholesterol profile. The researchers proposed that lemongrass may work, at least in part, by slowing HMG-CoA reductase, the same enzyme targeted by statin medications to reduce the body's production of cholesterol.

This doesn't mean lemongrass is a replacement for statins, and no one should stop a prescribed medication without talking with their healthcare provider. But it does highlight that plants and pharmaceuticals often converge on the same biological pathways. Nature discovers the target first.
