Eighty Years In, Rye Beach Pharmacy Is Still a Family Business
Daniel Giaquinto bought Rye Beach Pharmacy in 1946 after stopping in town and helping a customer fill an urgent prescription. Eighty years later, his family still runs it, son Bob, 86 and still playing pickleball four days a week, and grandson Ken, who now handles daily operations.
The pharmacy has outgrown its drugstore-with-a-lunch-counter start. More than 60 employees fill over 500 prescriptions a day, compound medications for patients who can't take pills, pack multi-drug dosing for complicated regimens, and run six delivery vehicles that reach pro and college sports teams. There's a naturopath on staff and a hormone-replacement specialist with 25 years at the store.
"Maintaining a large, dedicated staff allows us to provide a level of personalized service," Ken Giaquinto said.
I genuinely find stories like this inspiring because nowadays itโs all about big franchises, soulless places that, while undeniably convenient, completely lack the charm we so appreciate in our villages.
