Looking for a good read? Save Ourselves Breast Cancer Organization volunteer and two-time breast cancer surthrivor wrote this fabulous book. The only problem is that it ended. The characters lived on in my heart for weeks afterwards. Ann has a way of capturing emotions with words that people think but don’t dare speak. Deets in comments…

TODAY!! My friend and former Save Ourselves volunteer is having a book signing today on Broadway at the Avid Reader. Ann had asked me to read the book in advance and write up a review (that I think is on the book jacket).

It is a gripping story. I actually went through withdrawals when it was over.

Ann gives voice to the thoughts and feelings that most of us don’t dare utter.

She is a powerful writer!

I hope you can join Ann this afternoon!!

Lymphedema Treatment Act is offering two Zoom Webinars to prepare our advocates to participate in the upcoming 60-day Public Comment Period for the LTA rules, which is anticipated to begin in June.

What is a Public Comment Period?

Whenever there is new coverage or significant changes to existing coverage, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) is required to offer a Public Comment Period. Just prior to the comment period, CMS will release preliminary rules related to the coverage (like how many garments each patient can get at one time, how often they can be replaced, etc.), then the public will have 60 days to comment on those proposed rules, after which CMS may decide to make changes.

Why should I participate in the Public Comment Period?
If there is anything we don't like about the proposed rules, or wish were better, the public comment period is our opportunity to try and convince the CMS to modify those things before the rules are finalized. This will be an important opportunity for all stakeholders and advocates, and we hope everyone will participate. Each person can only submit one comment, however, so it's very important that you be prepared to make yours as effective as possible.

What if I have other questions?

If you have questions about anything other than the Public Comment Period, we encourage you to review our Frequently
Asked Question Document prior to attending one of the webinars.

Attention! Many of us with Lymphedema have been trying to get this piece of legislation passed for years, at least 10 years. Here is our opportunity for our voices to be heard!

Passage of this legislation will help those on Medicare and Medi-Cal receive lymphedema services. Since I am now a Medicare recipient,
the $54 gauntlets are not longer covered, as they were when I had regular Kaiser as opposed to Senior Advantage Kaiser. Plus I now pay 20% for my custom sleeves ($70 for two).

I’ll be on the June 11th Zoom!

Happy 36th Cancerversary! I’ve lived more of my years as a cancer survivor than not! Had anyone told me that this would be a positive pivotal time in my life back in 1987, I’d’ve thought they were nuts! As a child, I knew I was destined to become a psychologist because I knew the importance of having a safe place to share one’s pain. I feel so blessed to have been able to serve so many people as they navigate the tumultuous waters of breast cancer from diagnosis through treatment and beyond. I’m currently fielding calls from across the U.S. and even across the pond.

Help Save Ourselves Breast Cancer Organization continue its mission that no one face breast cancer alone.
