Our High School Graduate 🩵🎉🎓
We are so very proud of Lily Anastasia for all that she has accomplished in order to graduate a year early. Her school journey has been filled with lots of adventures throughout the years that made us laugh, cry, and have all the in-between feels. After nearly a full year of home hospital, half a year of independent study, and hybrid schedules due to covid we knew she could tackle anything - even homeschooling. However, we could not have done it without the help of our amazing HST Linda, who understood her health challenges & our goal of simply getting her to graduation. Lily decided to graduate early & with lots of hard work she did it! We are so proud of our theatre kid. Being able to focus on her love of theatre has helped her immensely these last couple of years & seeing her find her passion has been wonderful. Her school journey, with all the ups & downs, has made her who she is today - a beyond talented, creative, intelligent, funny, beautiful, stealthy force to be reckoned with. We love you LB! Even though you were over school a very long time ago thank you for letting us celebrate you & this milestone today on your last day of school. Our Lily Bear is officially a graduate of the class of 2026! Congratulations LB!!! We love you to the moon + back 🎓🎉🩵 ._.morales

A Memorial Day reminder that patriotism is wanting veterans housed, fed, medically cared for, and mentally supported; not just posting flag emojis once a year.

Did you know that in many countries it's standard to only see a midwife for expected pregnancy progression? This is not the norm in the US.

Midwives are seen as primary care with Obstetricians being a "specialist" for needing advanced care. And while one might assume everyone seeing a specialist = improved outcomes, we see the exact opposite.

Consider this, what if EVERY sore throat was referred to an ENT? A primary provider gets to know their patients and can manage basic allergies, mild reflux, and even strep infections. Imagine the long wait for care for a brief appt with a specialist who doesn't know you and is overbooked able to provide just a few minutes?

In their training, stronger antibiotics and surgery solves problems. Because they're trained for chronic infections, antibiotic resistant infections, swollen tonsils obstructing airway, etc. If they have less time, and an uncomfortable patient, might they be more inclined to offer a higher level of treatment? This isn't malicious, it's their training and time with patient.

And for the patients truly needing a higher level of care, this is perfect! But what if most people with a sore throat just need honey, time, and maybe an antibiotic if strep test is positive?

Think of similar approach to birth. Why are expected risk patients seeing a trained interventionist and trained surgeon? Their skillset absolutely saves lives, but is it necessary for all?

And for those who ARE higher risk, should they miss out on the benefits of midwifery care? The whole person approach including lifestyle, diet, mental health?

Fun fact: I experienced three high risk pregnancies and births (after low risk ones), and I maintained my midwifery care while getting collaborative care from OB and MFM.

👇🏽 Do you think this change in care could benefit US maternal health outcomes?

Celebrating Eden Ascension earning an Associate in Arts & an Associate in Science while she was doing her general education in order to transfer to CSUS. She had no idea she earned these until her counselor recently told her, so she decided to walk in American River College's Commencement. We are so proud of all her hard work & dedication to becoming an elementary school teacher 🎓✨
