5th Annual Academic Symposium!

9:00am – 10:30am Keynote: Shaping Tomorrow’s OT/OTA Student: Artificial Intelligence Risks, Readiness, and Responsibility

Tammy Richmond, MS, OTR/L, FAOTA, FATA

This keynote will explore how artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping occupational therapy education, clinical reasoning, student preparation, and real-world practice. A human centered AI framework is significant to occupational therapy because it safeguards occupation as a lived, meaningful experience while integrating emerging technologies into care. Attendees will examine educators’ plus students’ AI-integrated curricula strategies that prepare future practitioners to lead within an increasingly technology-enabled healthcare environment. A human-centered framework will ensure AI strengthens – rather than diminishes – client centered, occupational-based practice and equitable outcomes.

Special Topics Forum | Everyday Advocacy: Small Actions that Lead to Positive Change and Empowerment!

The regulatory and representational organizations most closely impacting practice in California will be reviewed. The emphasis will be on how to easily navigate their websites and track the most pertinent actions and policy changes relevant to the practice of occupational therapy. Understanding the organizational structure of the profession within the larger political and professional systems is critical to developing an action-oriented perspective. Knowledge is power. And power allows for action and evolution.

Learning Objectives
✔️Identify types of action at the local, state, and national level that serve the profession.
✔️Understand how to participate actively in state licensure revisions.

COST
Complimentary for OTAC members only.
Must be an OTAC member to register.

OTAC DEIOJ Book Club Meeting:

Book: Antiracist Occupational Therapy: Unsettling the Status Quo

Editor: Musharrat J. Ahmed-Landeryou

What: This month, we’re reading Chapter 5: Experiences if Racism in Occupational Therapy Clinical Education.

Why: We chose this book because of its one of kind look at our profession and study of occupational science through the perspective of scholars dedicated to occupational justice.

How: The meetings will begin with establishing norms for the space, reviewing authors and their contributions, a brief review of themes of the chapter, and ending with focused discussion to guide our reflections and critical conversation.

You are not required to purchase the book; however, it is strongly encouraged to deepen our discussions together!
