The National Association of Career Travel Agents (NACTA), was established in 1986 as the original association with a mission to represent the interests of independent and home based travel entrepreneurs. American Express has removed Privileges access through RezSaver, forcing qualifying Centurion and Platinum bookings exclusively through American Express Travel. Cardmembers now face an unfair choice: use their benefits or keep the advisor they trust.

ASTA is urging American Express to restore a verified pathway for professional travel advisors to book eligible Privileges benefits on behalf of their clients. We have launched a petition to protect consumer choice and the advisor relationship.

California Travel Advisors: Help Build What Comes Next

New chapter boundaries. More local connection. Greater opportunities to engage.

ASTA Members in California,

California is home to a large and diverse community of travel advisors and agencies, and we want our chapter structure to create more opportunities for members to connect, participate and lead.

We already have strong volunteer leadership and active ASTA communities in our Greater Sacramento, San Francisco Bay Area and Southern California Chapters, including SoCal, Greater San Diego and Orange County. Now, we’re building on that foundation by redrawing chapter boundaries and strengthening ASTA’s chapter presence across other areas of Northern and Central California.

As part of this work, we are looking for volunteer leaders to help build strong, sustainable chapters in:

Central California – counties include Fresno, Inyo, Kern, Kings, Madera, Mariposa, Merced, Monterey, Mono, San Benito and Tulare

Greater San Francisco/San Jose – counties include Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Francisco and San Mateo

Northern California - counties include Butte, Del Norte, Glenn, Humboldt, Lake, Lassen, Mendocino, Modoc, Plumas, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama and Trinity

Help Us Build Stronger Local Communities
Strong chapters don't happen because of lines on a map. They happen when engaged members come together, volunteer leaders create meaningful programming and help build a community where travel professionals want to participate.

We know California has those leaders, and we’re asking you to raise your hand.

ASTA provides structured volunteer onboarding, resources and ongoing support, so you won't be building alone. Chapter leadership is an opportunity to:

Build a stronger local community for travel advisors and agencies

Increase member participation and engagement

Create opportunities for education, networking and professional growth
Strengthen the voice of California travel professionals

Grow your own leadership skills while giving back to the profession

Ready to Help Lead?
If you're excited about creating a stronger ASTA community in your area, we want to hear from you.

Complete the Chapter Leadership Interest Form by Oct. 16.

Not ready for a leadership position? We need engaged members, too. Support your local chapter by attending events, participating in programs, building relationships and encouraging other travel professionals to get involved.
And if you know an ASTA member in Central California, Northern California or Greater San Francisco/San Jose who would make a great chapter leader, forward this email and encourage them to raise their hand.

California already has great chapter leaders and engaged members. Now, let's build on that momentum and create even more opportunities for California travel professionals to connect with ASTA and with one another.

The American Society of Travel Advisors (ASTA) is calling on American Express to reverse its decision to eliminate travel advisor access to its Privileges programs through RezSaver. ASTA has launched a public petition urging the company to restore a verified booking pathway for professional travel advisors, challenging a restriction that forces eligible Centurion and Platinum cardmembers to choose between qualifying travel benefits and having their trusted advisor book and service that portion of their trip.

The petition is already gaining support as ASTA presses American Express to reconsider the impact on its cardmembers and the advisors who manage their travel. Under the change, affected bookings must be made through American Express Travel to receive qualifying benefits, directing those transactions away from independent advisors.

“When a large U.S. bank cuts off travel advisors’ access to benefits for their shared clients, cardmembers are the ones who suffer,” said Zane Kerby, President and CEO of ASTA. “Travel advisors coordinate complex trips in which every connection matters. American Express is forcing travelers to pull part of that journey out of their advisor’s hands simply to receive their card benefits. That introduces unnecessary complexity and creates more opportunities for service disruptions when timing and coordination are critical.”
