🤯⚡ THAT HEADACHE AROUND YOUR EYE MAY ACTUALLY BE COMING FROM YOUR NECK. 👁️🧠
Meet the sternocleidomastoid—or SCM—one of the most important muscles I investigate when someone complains about chronic neck tension, headaches, or certain dizziness/vertigo-like sensations. 🔍
The SCM runs from the sternum and clavicle up to the mastoid process behind the ear. 🦴
And here’s where things get interesting… 👀
🎯 Trigger points within the SCM can create referred-pain patterns that may be felt:
👁️ Around or above the eye
👂 Around and behind the ear
🤕 Across portions of the forehead
🧠 Into different regions of the head and face
So once again… where you FEEL the symptom isn’t necessarily where the problem started. 🔗🎯
The SCM also doesn’t exist in isolation.
Its fascial relationships continue into the tissues surrounding the mastoid and occipital region, blending into the connective-tissue network at the back of the head near the external occipital protuberance (EOP) and nuchal region. 🔗🧠
💻 Now think about how many hours we spend sitting at a desk…
If your workstation keeps your head slightly rotated—or you repeatedly look toward a monitor positioned to the right or left—one SCM can spend hours working differently than the other. 🖥️➡️😬
Over time, that can contribute to:
⚖️ Left/right muscular imbalance
🔥 Hypertonic SCM fibers
🎯 Trigger-point development
🧠 Altered head and neck mechanics
🤕 Referred headache patterns
And SCM trigger points have also been associated clinically with dizziness, disequilibrium, and vertigo-like sensations. 🌀 That doesn’t mean every case of vertigo is muscular—true vertigo can have several causes—but when neck tension and head-position habits are part of the picture, the SCM is absolutely a structure worth investigating. 🔍
⚡ With ElectronsPlus and precise hands-on work, I can palpate the SCM, identify reactive areas, compare left-to-right response, and work specifically rather than simply treating the entire neck.
Sometimes treating a headache means looking somewhere other than the head. 🎯🙌
