Kudos to Steve Holbert; Kingwood, Texas.

A long-time Half-Power Superstand Standing Wheelchair user, and a big supporter of The Standing Company, Steve recently won the “Shoot Your Way Across Texas” indoor archery series. It was the third title for Steve.

I never thought I would utter this phrase: Patrick Peterson is no longer with us on Earth.
I met Patrick some 12-13 years ago. Our company, The Standing Wheelchair Company, hired
Patrick on the spot. Over the last 12-13 years, over countless miles and homes and VA
Hospitals and therapy clinics and people we visited; Patrick helped so many disabled folks
stand in the Superstand Standing Wheelchair. As Patrick said --- “Standing in The Superstand
makes you healthier and stronger.” And Patrick was the perfect example of that.
Because we spent so much time together on the road, I learned these truths about Patrick:
Patrick was life-affirming.
Patrick was energetic.
Patrick was polite.
Patrick was gracious.
Patrick was gregarious.
Patrick had a smile a mile long; he was a real charmer.
Patrick loved his mother and father.
Patrick loved his family.
Patrick loved his children.
Patrick loved his wife Rae.
Patrick loved the Bayou Chapter of the Paralyzed Veterans of America --- and he worked
tirelessly to make it better.
Patrick challenged so many disabled people (veterans and non-veterans alike) to make a
difference.
Patrick’s philosophy was simple: “Life goes on. Let’s go on with it.”
Patrick did not let his disability define him.
Patrick was inspirational in both words and deeds.
Patrick and I visited countless places along the Gulf Coast region to try and help people. Some
of these places --- maybe I shouldn’t have been there. Some of these places --- maybe Patrick
shouldn’t have been there. But we never failed people who genuinely wanted to improve their
life by standing in the Superstand Standing Wheelchair.
From Superstand users like Henry to Addie, from Loco to Lee, from Elmer to Trey --- the list
goes on and on of people impacted by Pat’s efforts and beliefs.
If you ever met Patrick Peterson, you know that we have lost a true good fellow. If you never
met Patrick Peterson, well, your life is a bit poorer for it.
Yes, I worked with Patrick Peterson. But Patrick Peterson was also my dear friend. Throughout
the years, we enjoyed so many wonderful lunches at Felix’s Fish Camp --- and the only thing
better than the food at Felix’s were our conversations. I will miss those the most.
I am 74 years old now. I understand unexpected things happen in life --- but I still don’t get it. I
understand that we are all here for some (unknown) prescribed amount of time --- but Patrick
didn’t need to leave this quickly. The world --- now more than ever --- needs a whole bunch of
Patrick Petersons. His untimely passing is simply not fair.
However, after we all expel our grief and tears and sorrow, and at the same time remember all
the good times, life will go on. We will all somehow go on with it.
Just like Patrick always said.

Meet Scott Liesch, Sales for the Standing Wheelchair Company…Scott traveled to Washington, DC to participate in the, “United Spinal Association’s Roll On Capital Hill” event for disability advocacy. Scott said that being a participant in the event was a good learning experience for him and he told me that the turnout ended up much better than he imagined. He said that his view was never obstructed at the conference and that he was able to see and hear everything from his vantage point thanks to his Half-Powered Superstand (HPS) standing chair! Even though Scott did not attend the gathering to drive sales he had to step back into that role due to the reason that there was several people interested in what he was standing in even though he was a paraplegic. Scott laughed and he said to me that it is like that wherever he stand because the HPS is very difficult to ignore…Lol!

Hello my name is Jay Erwin and my wife Lisa and I met Scott Liesch for the first time years ago when I set up an adaptive workshop for all of the people who have been living their lives in wheelchairs within the community in which I lived. Scott introduced himself and then he shared a little history about the company that he felt very proud and blessed to work for. Scott shared with us that each models is made right here in America and each model that the Standing Wheelchair Company creates is made with steel and the toughest materials because each of them are built to last just like things were built long ago.

After being very thorough about each model that the Standing Wheelchair Company makes and giving each of us the time needed for Q & A, he then began demonstrating the Standing Wheelchair model that he, a paraplegic just like me, was fully standing upright in. He called the model a, “half-powered Superstand” because it powered him where he wanted to go with less stress on both of his shoulders and arms as well as allowing him to manually stand wherever he wanted he simply put.

After that demonstration, Scott asked our class members to follow him because he wanted to demonstrate something else with all of us. Scott maneuvered his chair through the room with ease and made his way to the back of our room and asked that we follow him to the kitchen. He patiently waited for each member of the class to reach him and when the last one was ready, Scott briefly demonstrated some of the things that he was able to do and then after, Scott asked me if I wanted to give his chair a try and with excitement I agreed. After I getting into the chair, he gave me instructions on how to use it and stood up for the first time in years. With teary eyes, I gave my wife a hug and a big kiss and everyone in the room clapped their hands. After that, Scott asked me if I would get a cup out of the cabinet above the sink out for him. I reached around and opened the door of that cabinet and with my long arms I pulled the drinking cup out and handed it to him with a smile. My wife and I were both so impressed that months later we got a, “half-powered” model of my very own!
