But how crazy that this feels like yesterday and a million moons ago all at once 🥺 In one week, we reach the end of another huge era in Finny June’s journey… Her hearing aids are getting implanted.
When you were born, they told us your head was too small for a hearing test. We fought with everything we had in us for those hearing aids because we knew good and well that sweet, tiny head of yours wasn’t going to reach the size requirements for testing anytime soon. You literally didn’t have external ears… what more proof did they need?
Three months down the road, we were blessed to be in Alison Mitchell’s audiology room, putting on a hearing aid for the first time. It was a loaner that was the size of you, and you despised it for quite some time, but we trudged through.
You tossed a full set into the botanical garden in New York, never to be found again. You lost another set in the aisles of Target that was later found on the bow rack. You’ve swung a set at us in retaliation a few times, too. 😂 We’ve had eaten-battery scares, hearing aid hide-and-seek (we’ve been down to just one for months now 😅), and times you’ve taken them off because, “You can’t hear what I’m saying now.”
We’ve treaded water lightly because I want you to hear me when you’re near it and they aren’t waterproof. We’ve steered away from rain dance parties and turned our backs on sprinklers for the sake of keeping those things safe.
But come Monday, all those worries float away. 🥺
It’s so bittersweet. This journey. Every piece of it.
I’ve prayed endlessly for this road, these opportunities, this childhood for Finlee. To see it come to life is unexplainable.
Please keep our family in your prayers as we re-enter the hospital this time next week. We have fine-tuned our anesthesia plans for a better outcome for this surgery. I am hopeful and grateful. I have loved every single inch of Finlee throughout this journey, every band, every bow, every little piece of what made her uniquely her. But to see my sweet baby girl without anything across her head is going to hit different 🤍
The sweet gifts you all sent for the last procedure helped more than I can even say. I saved them for the pre-
