He likes to know the why behind everything, so as I was explaining the parahippocampal part of the brain, he paused, eyes wide, and said, ā€œParranah hippo camel?!?ā€ā€”and just like that, the inside joke was born. That night he sketched his own version of this wild creature for me to keep. From there, more sketches of new species were created. This cute clients mom sent an update andā€¦
The tears šŸ˜­ are flowing!

ā€œI think I told you about this at her initial appointment however sheā€™s never been able to free/independent play with legos. Literally her brain could not comprehend how to create something out of a pile of random legos.

The last couple weeks sheā€™s been asking where our tote of legos went and I honestly thought I gave it to DI because she is the youngest and never would/could play with them. She would get frustrated and angry and break everything if she tried or if we tried to do it with her.

I actually had a family member comment last summer on the fact that Sunny couldnā€™t put legos together when playing with cousins her age and it was a catalyst to a lot of my awareness around some of the things she struggled with.

A month or two ago we got these plant Lego boxes at Costco and we did them as a family and she participated a little however it was still really frustrating and stressful for her when she did.

This evening she was rummaging in a cabinet upstairs and she found the tote of legos I thought I gave to the DI. She asked me to get them down and she 100% independently built a pool, a garden, a garage, and a bed room. Ruth, I am literally shocked. I really couldnā€™t believe it. I still am in shock. I honestly donā€™t even have the words to tell you what a difference you have made in her life and ours.ā€ -AK
