It’s been one month since Lakeside Pulmonary Medicine opened and saw our first patients, how’s it going?!
The experiences we’re having with our patients and families are even more fulfilling and heartwarming than we imagined - and we are grateful for each one who has trusted us with their care 💙 You are affirming the reasons why we’re doing this 💖
The insurance credentialing process is slower than expected, creating great frustration as we are unable to charge private insurance companies for care. This means that privately insured patients either pay their own money for care, or delay care, or go somewhere else for care that we could provide.
We’ve been calling this a “soft start” in polite conversation where other adverbs aren’t appropriate 😊 which basically means we have a lot of downtime. We’re connecting with community members and colleagues every day and building meaningful relationships. We’re also haunted by society’s measurement of success as “being busy and productive”. We are not busy. We can debate if we’re productive. We are trusting that this time serves a purpose and remain curious about how we continue to grow and change through this process.
Growth and change are both hard and beautiful, they require allowing parts of ourselves to die so that new parts may emerge. To everyone who is growing and changing (especially with back-to-school season) - we’re with you, we can do this, go imagine and create something new! 💙
