Last night was one for the books!

We hosted one of our favorite workshops! Thirty students, from high school to aspiring medical school applicants, all coming together to learn, collaborate, and dissect kidneys under the guidance of an ATSU-KCOM medical student.

Watching students at different stages connect, explore, and support one another was truly inspiring and a reminder of why this work matters.

So grateful for everyone who helped make this experience possible!

We offer our congratulations to Dr. Kendal Geno on being awarded the Rural Scholars Distinguished Community-Based Faculty Award at the University of Missouri School of Medicine, as nominated by Adam Orf.

Dr. Geno exemplifies the role of a servant leader, having served his rural community for many years while dedicating himself to inspiring and teaching the next generation of rural physicians. Adam Orf stated, 'I can confidently say that I would not be the person or future physician I am today without Dr. Geno; he significantly influenced my desire to become a family physician.'

Adam rotated at Mosaic Life Care through Northwest Missouri AHEC for his third year of medical school and will officially be Dr. Adam Orf as of today!🎓 Congratulations to both👏🏻

🎉 What a way to wrap up the school year!
Our End of Year Banquet featured a hands‑on Mystery Patient Escape Room, where students solved puzzles using lab values, vital signs, ciphers, and clinical clues to diagnose and treat their patient.

Students then discussed their experience with a nurse and medical student who shared how these same skills are used in real clinical settings and reflected on their own healthcare journeys.

We wrapped up the night by celebrating student achievements, including awarding certificates to the top three participants with the highest number of AHEC workshop hours this year.

We can’t wait to do it all again next year. Stay tuned for upcoming opportunities to join us! ✨

This achievement is especially noteworthy as Klayton balanced the demands of medical school at ATSU–Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine while completing clinical rotations at Mosaic Life Care.

The AHEC Scholars Program is a prestigious, two-year national certificate program designed to prepare future health professionals to serve rural and underserved communities—and Klayton has exemplified this mission throughout his journey.

We look forward to all that lies ahead as Klayton begins his residency in Lincoln, Nebraska. Best wishes as you continue to move forward in your medical career, we are excited to see the impact you will make!
