Happy friday! Runners, your legs are doing a lot more than you give them credit for. 🏃

Every mile adds up in your calves, shins, arches and the bottom of your feet. Here’s what we use to relieve your problem areas and boost your recovery:

⚡ Electrostim: gentle electrical stimulation that gets tight, fatigued muscles to relax and helps settle soreness after long runs.

🤲 Massage: hands-on work through the calves, hamstrings, shins and feet to release tension and get you moving freely again.

🪨 Gua sha: a smooth tool scraped along the muscle to break up stuck fascia and get blood moving through overworked shins, calves and arches.

📍 Acupuncture: fine needles for stubborn spots like plantar fascia, Achilles tension and tight hips, without needing deep pressure.

🧘 Integrated stretching: assisted stretches built into your session to open up hips, hamstrings and ankles while the tissue is warm.

⭕ Cupping: suction that lifts and decompresses tissue in the calves, IT band, and feet - for tension that's hard to reach with massage.

Training for a race, coming back from one, or just tired of tight legs? Our therapists integrate the modalities that are right for you into a customized session adjusted to what your body needs that day.

🩹 P.S. Ask us about K-taping: kinesiology tape applied before a run for extra support on knees, shins, ankles or arches, or after one to help ease swelling and soreness while you recover.

Meet Andy — the founder behind Function. 👋

For more than a decade, Andy has built Function around the idea of helping people move better, recover faster, and get back to feeling like themselves.

With a background in sports recovery, movement, and performance, he’s worked with everyone from professional athletes to people who just want to feel good in their bodies again.

Whether you’re a busy mom or a recovering athlete, Andy’s work is hands-on and focused on results - and that same standard runs through every therapist he’s brought onto our team.

Hey friends! Concussion recovery is frustrating because so much of it is invisible.

Headaches that won't quit. Bright lights and loud rooms that feel like too much. Fatigue that makes simple tasks difficult.

Recovery isn't just about waiting it out - it's an active process that body work can help: easing neck tension, calming your nervous system, and supporting the sleep and muscle recovery your brain desires to heal.

Our latest post breaks down how we adapt sessions for a healing brain: lower lights, quiet rooms, a gentler touch. Explore more on the blog: link in our latest story.💆🏻✨

Function was built on a simple idea: care that actually works, from practitioners who know your history and adjust every session to you. Hearing that it lands is why we keep showing up!

Grateful for every single one of you. 💚 Thank you for letting us be a part of your care experience.

"Does it hurt?" is the #1 thing people ask us about acupuncture. 👩‍⚕️🪡

Honest answer: for most people, no. The needles are about as thin as a strand of hair. Most people feel a tiny pinch, or nothing at all. Plenty of clients fall asleep on the table.

We put everything you've wondered about into one guide: how it works, what it helps, what your first session looks like, and how many visits you'll actually need.

Real relief starts with being listened to! Most people come to acupuncture for pain, but many end up staying for all the additional benefits. ✨

Better sleep, less stress, smoother digestion, balanced hormones, and a calmer nervous system are just a few of the things our clients notice along the way.

Every session at Function starts with a real conversation about what's going on, what you've tried, and how you want to feel. From there, we build care around you!

New on the blog: Why your massage therapist asks about your treatment history👨‍⚕️

You've settled in, you're ready to relax, and then we ask: Any new injuries? Medications? Surgeries since last time?

If you've ever wondered why ask again when you just told us last month, this one's for you! We're sharing what we're actually listening for, and how your answers help us build a session that's safe and made for your body, not a generic version of it.

Not all sciatica is the same! That shooting pain down your leg has a name, but often is created from a few different scenarios.

Sciatica describes symptoms, not a diagnosis. The pain can come from a disc pressing on a nerve root, from narrowing in the spine, or from a tight piriformis muscle deep in your glute squeezing the sciatic nerve. What's behind your pain changes what will actually help.

When muscle tension is part of the problem, massage can make a real difference. When a disc is the main driver, massage still eases the tension that builds up around it, but it works best as one part of a bigger plan.

In our latest blog, we'll help you decipher what massage can and can't do for sciatica! We'll also discuss:

🌿 Which muscles are most often behind the pain
🌿 Why your "good" side might need work too
🌿 When to go easy, and when to skip massage and call your doctor
🌿 What a good sciatica session should actually look like

Knowing your source and best course of treatment is the fastest way to moving more freely again. Have the best weekend! 🍁

Suction, but make it self-care! 🫧

Most bodywork presses down into your muscles. Cupping works the other way. It lifts the skin and the layers of fascia underneath, which creates space where tension has been packed in tight.

Think of it as decompression for your tissue.
When those layers have room to move, circulation picks up and stiff areas start to soften. Your body also gets a clear cue that it's safe to relax. Spots like your shoulders, neck, and low back, where stress tends to settle, finally get some breathing room.

Lifted. Loosened. Lighter. Where have you been holding tension lately?

Hey friends! Let's talk about qi. ✨

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, qi (pronounced "chee") is the energy that moves through your body on a 24-hour cycle, passing through a new meridian every two hours. When life is calm, it flows. When you're stressed, it gets stuck.

Chronic stress keeps your body in fight-or-flight. Your muscles tense up, your breath gets shallow, and your mind won't turn off. That's when the flow stalls.

One of our favorite ways to get things moving again is acupuncture paired with red light therapy. Acupuncture works along your meridians to restore flow. Red light wraps you in deep, gentle warmth, which tells your body it's safe to let go. With both together, your nervous system can finally shift from fight-or-flight into rest-and-digest.

Warm red glow. Tiny needles. Slow breathing. Give your body the pause it's been asking for - we'll take it from here. 💆🚨
