Pediatric and Young Adult Medicine (PYAM) is open as usual for Thursday July the 2nd and you can schedule online by going to our website www.pyam.com or by calling 651-256-6714 starting after 7:30 am. PYAM will be closed Friday the 3rd AND we will be closed on Saturday the 4th.

ERs and Urgent Cares have been running multiple hours behind all week, so if your child is any bit sick - then best to be seen Thursday lest you will have to wait till Monday.

Most Pharmacies will be closed as well this weekend so if you need refills don’t wait.

If a PYAM provider completes your child’s exam, then PYAM will complete any paperwork needs for up to 12 months after exam date.

Providers at PYAM can NOT call in refills if your child has not been seen in the last 12 months, nor can we fill out camp nor sports forms if we did not complete the Physical Exam at PYAM.

If you go to any other provider- they will have to complete your forms per state medical practices. If the outside provider was to refuse ( which they often do unless presented at exam date) then you would have to obtain a non-covered exam by either yet another provider or PYAM.

Dr Siefferman has his last Saturday Clinic. Call 651-227-7806 after 8:30am to be seen.
With all the family gatherings, we expect to see an increase in Influenza A with high fevers and sore throat then cough and fatigue and often wheezing. Sadly most pharmacies are running out of branded and generic Tamiflu which lessens the severity and shortens the duration of the infection.
Covid has been a bad cold but we are getting secondary infections like sinusitis and ear infection and though there is an anti-viral medication, Paxlovid, it leaves a nasty taste in your mouth for days even when finished and many people can not tolerate it at all.
We have the croup virus - Parainfluenza causing loss of voice and wheezing and we have RSV - Respiratory Syncytial Virus also causing coughs and wheezing in all ages with a high incidence of secondary pneumonia 3 to 5 days into the illness.
Of course, no let up in Strep throat and will often occur in someone ill with any of the above illnesses - so if someone in the family found on a quick home test to be sick with Influenza or Covid, yet they are not getting better then PLEASE be seen.

PYAM is open most of next week including the morning of New Year’s Eve in St Paul only, though all offices are closed on Thursday, January 1.

The Providers and Staff of PYAM, hope you had a Merry Christmas or holidays and hope you have a safe New Year as the Minnesota weather returns to sub-zero wind chills!

Nice Nadiifa Karie ARNP has clinic this Saturday December 20 from 9 am to 12 Noon in St. Paul. Call today or after 8:30 am tomorrow to be seen. 651-227-7806.

Influenza A is still burning through the Twin Cities with high fevers, fatigue and cough and is severe enough it may need generic Tamiflu to decrease severity. A lot of secondary infections such as sinus infections and ear infection and a fair number of pneumonia last week.
RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) has been brought into town by returning college students -triggering wheezing and coughs in some and unfortunately will be hitting the little ones probably as early as Saturday.
Rhinovirus is still triggering laryngitis in a lot of adults and teens. Often triggers sinus infections as well.
Strep and Covid continue to cause burning sore throats and fatigue and fevers - sadly Covid is causing short lived loss of smell and taste.
A couple cases of dreaded Norovirus are about - fevers, generalized aches then rapid onset of nausea, then extreme vomiting and diarrhea and high risk for dehydration.

Don’t delay, come in early.

Next week all PYAM clinics are open Monday and Tuesday (12/22 & 12/23), only open in Saint Paul from 9am till 12 noon on 12/24. PYAM is closed Thursday (12/25) and all reopen 12/26 for after the holidays for illnesses and for well exams. Lastly, we are open as usual on Saturday 12/27 with Dr. Siefferman’s last Saturday clinic of his career!

Magical Dr Meredith Doran has Saturday clinic at St. Paul from 9am till 12 noon. Call after 8:30am at 651-227-7806 to see Meredith.
College kids are coming home sick with strep and Covid and Influenza A and B. They are also bringing EBV Infectious Mononucleosis. All have a severe sore throat and need to be tested to determine if they need antibiotics (or not if viral).
Also we continue to have a lot of Adenovirus causing high fevers and red eyes then horrendous sore throats and coughs - and often leads to secondary infections like sinus and ear infections and even pneumonia.
Don’t waste hours in an Urgent Care, come in for friendly Pediatric care.
