Between Thanksgiving and Christmas seems like a good time to consider the appreciation conundrum. Did you knock yourself out putting on the Thanksgiving feast and wonder if those you served appreciated it? Or did you do it, because you LOVE doing it? These are questions worth pondering. Somewhere between the black and white is probably your shade of gray. It’s up to you what you do with the information.

This is one of the most interesting WebMD posts I've seen in a while, and I love WebMD - it's about a form of depression that's not a problem for anyone except the person who has it - since it has to do with continuing to perform when all the joy is gone - it's one I'm very familiar with and regularly work hard to overcome. Of course, the punchline is at the bottom. And it's pretty simple: find stuff you love to do and DO them. My dear colleague Vivian Nelsen sent me this Balance Devotion from Luther Seminary - it is SO perfect. Thank you, Vivian.

Today’s reading takes us beyond concerns for feeding our hunger to feeding our very identity: “so you may be filled with the fullness of God.” Imagine a pie chart of your life. There are wedges for work, leisure, family, fitness, entertainment, church activities—you know your list. They all keep you busy, sometimes more than busy.

It often seems there aren’t enough hours in the day to fit it all in. And then someone says you need to include God in the pie chart. You look but can’t find anywhere to add a wedge. Still you know something is missing. There is an emptiness that needs to be filled. Now imagine you have a disc of God’s presence.

Instead of wedging it in, you ask God to occupy the center of your life, overlapping every wedge. Suddenly God becomes the center from which all your life’s aspects spring. God becomes the center of all that you are. And God fills your whole life, 24/7. Thanks be to God.

“So, it's actually better for our immune systems, better for our psychological well-being, and ultimately better for our community if we focus on what feels good. What helps us feel relaxed. What helps us feel connected. What helps us feel productive. What helps our nervous system settle into a more sustainable gear. So, that's actually the responsible thing to do.” Dumas said. This is an excerpt from an MPR interview from a psychologist I respect. Here's the link if you want to read more.

As burdensome as staying at home may be, it’s also possible to find opportunities for growth.

It’s tempting to over-eat during these anxious times. So it’s a good time to create a New Normal Time Diet that includes exercise, but also intellectually, spiritually and emotionally satisfying activities as well. No better time to get in balance than NOW.

This extremely powerful article made me cry, which being Scandinavian, doesn't happen very often.

When anxiety gets the best of us, it can give us the impression that the tasks before us are THE MOST IMPORTANT THING, which just distracts us from what's REALLY IMPORTANT.

Have a great Monday and remember to breathe!

In her new book, Tara Brach helps break a trail through the dense forest of anxiety with the practice of RAIN.
