Five things athletes get wrong about tendon pain. Rest doesn't heal a tendon — progressive loading does, and offloading it just makes the tissue weaker. Pain going away doesn't mean it's ready for sport. A "tight" tendon usually needs load, not stretching, which can actually aggravate an irritated tendon. And tendon pain isn't a life sentence — managed well, it gets better. The through-line: tendons adapt to load, so load is the medicine.

Late-stage ACL rehab doesn't look like a clinic — it looks like training. This lacrosse athlete is months into recovery, and his session is built around the exact demands his sport will throw at him: single-leg box jumps for power, skater jumps for lateral control, banded deceleration work for braking, and single-leg extensions to close the quad strength gap that lingers after surgery. Cutting sports are won and lost on stopping and changing direction. So that's what we train.

Reaching as far as you can on one leg looks like a balance drill. It's actually a strength and control test.

When we run the Y Balance Test, each reach direction tells us something specific: how well your quad produces force and controls the knee, whether you can stay stable on a single leg, how well you manage your body moving forward over the foot, and how your hip and trunk hold everything together.

Put together, it shows us one thing that matters on the field—can you control your body on one leg in every direction. That's where injuries are made or avoided.

Two athletes, same injury, very different recovery times. Why?

A lot of it comes down to factors outside the clinic. Nutrition and hydration give tissue the raw materials to rebuild. Sleep is when most of that repair actually happens. Then there's what you can't control as much—how severe the injury is and what kind of tissue was hurt, since muscle heals faster than tendon, and tendon faster than cartilage.

The quality of your rehab ties it all together. Heal the whole system, not just the sore spot.

Most throwing setbacks aren't really arm problems. They're base problems.

Three mistakes we see over and over: ramping up throw volume too fast, coming back without real strength underneath, and treating it like an arm issue when the legs and core drive the throw.

The arm delivers the ball. The body generates the force. Rebuild the base first, then the arm has something to work with.

Cramping late in the game? Losing a step and blaming your training? Check your water bottle first. Dehydration doesn't usually hurt you directly — it wears down your coordination until your form breaks and something strains. The fix is boring but it works: drink steadily all day, not in one gulp before practice. Water covers most sessions; save the electrolytes for the long, hot, sweaty ones.

Hydration and injury prevention are more connected than most athletes think. See how dehydration raises your injury risk and how to stay ahead of it.

Strong hip and core muscles play a key role in soccer performance and durability. These muscle groups help athletes generate power, maintain balance during single-leg activities, and control the forces involved in sprinting, cutting, and changing direction.

A well-designed injury prevention program that includes hip and core strengthening may help reduce the risk of common soccer injuries involving the knees, hamstrings, and groin while improving movement efficiency on the field.
