Your post-surgical scar has an expiration date on its flexibility.

Between months 3 and 18, it goes through the "maturation stage," where it transitions from a soft, workable tissue into a rigid, structural fixture. If you are experiencing stiffness or pain, this is your window of opportunity. Once that scar tissue fully matures and hardens, breaking it down without surgical revision gets significantly harder. Don't sleep on your physical therapy.

That's why our treatment plans always include post-operative care that supports your entire journey to a full and healthy recovery.

Human hands are incredible instruments, but when it comes to cutting bone and balancing ligaments for a total knee or hip replacement, human eyes can't match a robotic 3D map.

Our surgeons utilize advanced robotic-assisted technology like Mako SmartRobotics™ to pre-plan your surgery with sub-millimeter precision based on your specific skeletal geometry. This level of accuracy means less unnecessary soft-tissue disruption, less post-op trauma, and a joint that actually feels like your own.

Many patients qualify for a total hip or knee replacement that allows them to return home the very same day. 🏡✨ Outpatient joint replacement at Alexander Orthopaedics uses tissue-preserving surgical techniques and anesthesia approaches that support early movement and steady recovery.

Patients benefit from healing in a familiar environment. Home recovery reduces hospital downtime, lowers certain infection risks, and creates a smoother transition into physical therapy. We are incredibly proud to share a special story about Dr. Jacob Alexander, orthopedic resident and son of our very own Dr. Vladimir Alexander, who will eventually join the Alexander Orthopaedics team after his residency and fellowship!

Rather than spending his recent week-long vacation relaxing, Dr. Jacob Alexander traveled to Antigua, Guatemala, with Team Hope in Motion and Faith in Practice. Alongside a dedicated team of medical professionals, he helped perform 105 life-changing joint replacements and orthopedic procedures for patients who otherwise have zero access to surgical care. Dr. Jacob notes that witnessing patients walk pain-free just hours after complex procedures completely recalibrated his perspective on the profound impact of medicine.

A smooth recovery after orthopedic surgery depends on how your body manages scar tissue beneath the surface. Collagen production increases as the incision heals, and sometimes those fibers form in thick or disorganized patterns. That can create tightness, stiffness, or a firm texture that affects how comfortably a joint moves.

Joints like the knee, ankle, shoulder, and elbow are especially sensitive during recovery because daily movement places tension on healing tissue. That tension can encourage scar tissue to become less flexible over time. 🦵✨

Physical therapy helps guide how those fibers settle. Targeted stretching, strengthening, and hands-on techniques support healthy remodeling and protect your long-term mobility. Your joint benefits from early attention and consistent care. Get in touch to learn more and to expedite your own post-op healing!

A torn ACL is a common injury that requires immediate attention to prevent further damage to the knee joint.

Most patients report hearing or feeling a loud "pop" followed by intense pain and a sensation of instability. Swelling typically occurs within the first 24 hours, making it difficult to bear weight or fully straighten the leg.

If you experience these symptoms after a sudden pivot or jump, you should seek an evaluation. Ignoring an ACL tear can lead to chronic instability and an increased risk of developing early-onset osteoarthritis. If you’re unsure about your symptoms, our team is always ready to guide you toward the right next step.

You should never have to accept living with a limp or severe ankle pain as your "new normal." Joyce C. reclaimed her independence and her active lifestyle after a successful ankle replacement with Dr. Constantino.

Joyce shared her journey: "Dr. Johnathan Constantino is awesome!
